Final Term Exam; Second Semester, SY 2019-2020

Academic Journal Article Critique


*to be accomplished by group maximum of 5 members; students who wish to submit an individual
output are welcome to do so

I. Introduction

Journal articles are a means to bridge the information gap between the learning institution and
the world of formal research. The goal of this project is for a student to demonstrate the ability to
locate, evaluate, and critique on a scientific academic journal of significance to the enrolled
subject.

II. Orientation

A. Choosing the Article


• Must be recent: study should have been conducted and published starting 2018. In our
Facebook group, kindly comment the title of the article of your choice to prevent other
groups from working on it.
• Topic must be of significance to Microbiology and Parasitology; i.e., anything recent about
Microbiology (Hint: Focus on an article that interests you, the Nursing profession,
applications on a local setting, etc.)

B. Sources
• Primary source: any scientific journal (Primary Source); must be peer-reviewed; print or
web-based
• Secondary sources: must be acknowledged (cited) as part of your References (additional
background reading is needed to help you understand your topic). You may also check
supplemental videos on Youtube to help you in your discussion.

C. Formalities of the Paper


• Standard white short bond paper (11 in x 8.5 in)
• Century Gothic font style, size 11; single line spacing; 1-inch margins
• Components of the Paper: each major part starts with a new page
a. Cover Page (1 page, indicate the group members)
b. Table of Contents (1 page)
c. Summary of Journal Article (at least 1 page)
d. Critique (claims must be supported with substantial data; unlimited pages)
e. Copy of the journal article (to be included as an additional attachment in your email)
f. References: proper format of citation of primary and secondary references

III. Evaluation
• The total and final score is appropriated as a component of the Laboratory final exam.
