Learning outcomes

Knowledge
The student who completes the course successfully will be able to demonstrate a generalized knowledge of the main issues in Baltic Philology
and Linguistics, and will acquire tools for approaching critically any text written in a Baltic language (Lithuanian, Latvian, Old Prussian). He will
be also able to understand specific problems of the Baltic linguistic area both sincronically and diachronically and to interpret them in a wider
IndoEuropean context.

Assessment criteria of knowledge

During the classes the student may be requested to demonstrate his/her knowledge of the course material.

Skills
The students will achieve basic knowledge on the subject of Baltic Philology and Linguistics and of the cultural history of the Baltic world, in
particular of the historical Baltic linguistics.

Prerequisites
No previous knowledge is required.
It is prefereble (but not obligatory) the previous frequence of the course "Lithuanian language and culture" (LET).

The course provides an introduction to the main issues of Baltic Philology and Linguistics in its diachronical development. It offers a special
acquaintance of the oldest stage of the three Baltic languages (Lithuanian, Latvian and Old Prussian) within the IndoEuropean context with
