Mise-en-scene
Lighting and colour
The lighting in the church is very dimly lit
and sinister, the scenes are backlit most of
the time by the natural light from the
outside which emphasises the darkness of
the inside of the church.
Characters
Michael – Becoming a Godfather but the
scenes of the shooting keep switching to a
close-up shot of his faces which hints that
he has something to do with the shootings
that are going on.
Policeman – You’d expect the police officer
to be good, but he is actually evil as he is
one of the people who commits the gun
murders and shoots 3 people dead. This
shows an obvious contrast between the good
and evil.
The Priest – The priest is doing his job and
performing the baptism representing the
good.
Camera angles
There are close-up shots of the baby being
baptised and the man agreeing to become
the child’s godfather which contrasts to the
close-up shots of the men loading the guns
and shooting the people as it shows good
and evil.
There are also over the shoulder shots of
Michael and the priest showing that they are
complete opposites (good and evil).
