Mini Sagas - Examples

Saving Money
"I have saved 70 pence today" David said to his wife, excited and breathing
deeply as he arrived home. "I ran home behind the bus and earned 70 pence
for us." "You stupid fool, you should have followed a taxi instead. Then you
could have earned over five pounds instead?"

Life
A fisherman had a nice family and lived happily near the beach, fishing only
for their daily needs. One day he met a businessman who said "catch more
fish, buy more boats and run a successful business". The fisherman answered
"then what?" "Start a family and live by the beach."

Home
The boy who lived in the countryside came home from university. He wanted
to give his parents a big surprise. At the door, he found his family cold and
cheerless. To support him with his studies, his parents sold all their cattle and
led a very poor and simple life.

An Open Mind
"I don't like robots," I said to my new boss after a cup of coffee. "I hate
them, I don't like working with cold machines."
"Perhaps you really should try to open your mind." My boss put down his cup
and opened his body, then put two new batteries inside.

Pity
A young man sat in a restaurant with a beautiful woman. This was an
important day for him as he wanted to talk to her about his feelings. Another
man came in and said to her, "Darling, sorry I'm late, let me introduce my
son," pointing to the young man.

School
Peter knew he was in trouble. His teacher had warned him that if he was late
again he would be in big trouble. He ran all the way to school without
stopping. When he arrived he was shocked to find the gates were locked.
Then he realised…. It was Saturday!
 50-word Mini-Saga

Remember that your story must:

 be exactly 50 words
 be complete
 have a little twist (surprise) at the end

If you have less than 50 words, look for where you could add an
adjective or an adverb to make up the word count.

Contractions (e.g. isn’t) count as two words.

Multi-word numbers count as one word, e.g. forty-nine.
