Introduction/Purpose Statement -Briefly describe the purpose of technology

integration including: what technology is to be used; who will use the technology;
how will it be used; what learning objectives are being supported by use of the
technology; why is technology an appropriate choice to support student learning as
opposed to using other means of instruction.

The technology used in this session is the online interface Soundtrap. This is an online,
collaborative music studio similar to Garageband. The students in this one-to-one, middle school
classroom would collaborate to create a song utilizing backtracks and mixing tools. This
technology is easy to use, tinker, and create which would be a beneficial tool for self-guided
student learning.

II. Product/process sample–If creating an interactive webpage or podcast, provide an

online link where this may be viewed; if using technology for assessment purposes or
digital music production, then provide a scripted outline of the process the student
will go enact to complete this assignment

Students will be randomly placed into groups of 3 and be tasked to compose a short, simple
melody. They may do this at the piano, aurally, or through midi devices. After the melody is
composed, each member draws the roles of drum set, keyboard/synthesizer, or guitar/bass. The
melody is uploaded to Soundtrap and shared between each group member. Each member
composes their own backtrack and/or using a precomposed one with altered effects.

loops and how to edit them with effects (must have at least 3 if using premade)

After completing the song, students share a link to the class padlet and give feedback on each
group’s composition. Each individual will submit a private reflection to the teacher detailing how
the song-writing experience went and how it impacted them.

III. Assessment –Describe how you will assess student learning that relates to the
technology integration plan; assessment may take place either online or as part of
regular classes.

Each line distributes creativity through composition and/or premade loop with at least 3 effects.
The composition must make musical sense and each member must respond to every group’s
composition on padlet. The individual response must detail the student’s opinion going through
the process, what they struggled with, what they succeeded with, and how the project changed
their outlook on creating music.
IV. IV. Reflection –Summarize your experience creating the technology integration plan
for your unit.

I found this software at T.M.E.A. and honestly love it! It’s similar to Garage Band, but online
and collaborative. This was one of the hardest things to overcome when I worked collaboratively
in Garage Band, scheduling! Using Soundtrap eliminates the need for constant in-class work and
is affordable. I like that students are faced with a user-friendly interface that enables students to
be as creative as they want or not. The cost for up to 50 students is actually less than a small plan
for canvas! I hope to be able to utilize this program in the future and become more familiar with
it.
