ABSTRACT

Correlation between Having Breakfast and Concentration during Studying


on Grade 4-5 Students at SD Islam Terpadu Al Uswah 1 Banyuwangi
in 2019

Breakfast is important in increasing concentration during studying. Lack


of good and regular breakfast habits can cause laziness to pay attention to the
teacher, not focused when in class and unable to absorb the subject delivered by
the teacher. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation of having
breakfast with the concentration while studying in grades 4-5 students at SDIT AL
USWAH 1 Banyuwangi in 2019.
This research is a Correlation Study. The research used cross sectional
design. The sampling technique was purposive sampling. The population in the
study was 128 respondents with sample of 97 respondents. Instruments used for
data measurement were questionnaires about breakfast and concentration during
studying with Spearman's rank correlation test to analyzed the data.
The results of the study showed that all the respondents (100%) had
regular breakfast habit and 90 respondents (93%) had good concentration during
studying. After analyzing the data using Spearman's rank test, it was found that
sig (2-tailed) = 0,000 <a = 0.05. Thus, Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted
which means there was a significant correlation between having breakfast and
concentration during studying on students at SDIT Al Uswah 1 Banyuwangi in
2019.
The results of the study can be used to maintain good concentration
during studying for students by paying attention to students' regular breakfast
habits, always providing breakfast for the students, waking up the students early,
varying the breakfast menu every day and giving understanding about the
importance of breakfast for children.
