SCENE 5: THE CAVE OF WONDERS

(Inside the cave, ALADDIN is amazed by the amount of the treasures that surround
him.)

ALADDIN
Look at all these treasures! Now, where is the lamp?
(sees the lamp)
There you are!
(shouts toward the entrance)
I found the lamp!

JAFAR
(outside the entrance)
Bring it to me now!

ALADDIN
(takes the lamp)
All right.
(sees a necklace)
Hmm, this would be perfect for a princess.

(Mesmerised, ALADDIN touches the necklace. #17 – CAVE COLLAPES.)

CAVE OF WONDERS
You have touched the forbidden treasures! You shall never see the light of day again!
(ALADDIN steps back. Then, the cave entrance collapses.)

ALADDIN, JAFAR, IAGO

Noooooooo!
(Blackout. The lights come up on ALADDIN, laying on the ground.)

ALADDIN
Ouch, that hurts. Hello? Anybody, help!
(sees the lamp)
Hmm, how does this work by the way?
 (ALADDIN rubs the lamp. Soon, GENIE appears. #18 – GENIE APPEARS 1)

GENIE
(to audience)
Hello everybody! Miss me?!

ALADDIN
I think my head hit the ground too hard that I’m seeing things right now.

GENIE
Believe what you see, young man!

ALADDIN
Who are you?

GENIE
Seriously? Isn’t it obvious? I am the Genie!

ALADDIN
(points at the lamp)
So, you came out from this lamp?

GENIE
Wow, how silly you could be? Of course, I’m from inside the lamp! And you have summoned
me by rubbing the said lamp. You are my master now! Quick, you got three wishes.

ALADDIN
Only three?

GENIE
Be grateful someone is willing to grant your wish!

ALADDIN
(chuckles)
Ok ok. I can wish for anything I want, right?
GENIE
Correct! You got a name, kid?

ALADDIN
Aladdin.

GENIE
Mind if I call you Al… Al? Why don’t you just ruminate whilst I illuminate the poss-o-bilities!

(#19 – FRIEND LIKE ME. The ENSEMBLE magically appears to aid GENIE.)

(#20 – FRIEND LIKE – PLAYOFF. The ENSEMBLE magically disappears.)

GENIE
(to audience)
Thank you! Thank you.
(to ALADDIN)
So, back to business. What are your wishes, kid?

ALADDIN
You will grant me any three wishes I want, right?

GENIE
That’s right! But everything comes with some rules. Rule Number One: I can’t kill anybody.
Rule Number Two: I can’t bring anybody back from the dead. And Rule Number Three: I
can’t make anybody fall in love with anybody else. Do I make myself clear, kid?

ALADDIN
Crystal.

GENIE
Good.

ALADDIN
(gets an idea)
Some all-powerful genie you are. I bet you couldn’t even get us out of here.
GENIE
(smug)
Whoa there! So that’s how it’s gonna be? Well, prepare to be amazed!

(#21 – CAVE OPENS. GENIE opens the cave entrance. ALADDIN and GENIE exit
the cave with the lamp.)

SCENE 6: JOURNEY OUT OF THE DESERT

ALADDIN
Thanks, Genie! Now you can start granting me my three wishes!

GENIE
(shakes head)
You only have two left, kid.

ALADDIN
Hey! I did not officially wish to get out of the cave. That was on you.

GENIE
(yelps, to audience)
He tricked the Genie!

(ALADDIN begins the journey back to Agrabah. GENIE follows, keeping a closer
eyes on him.)

ALADDIN
Three wishes, huh? What would you wish for, Genie?

GENIE
Me?
(ALADDIN nods.)
Simple, I would wish for freedom. For years, I’m trapped inside the lamp, always imagining
being my own master. But who am I kidding? It’s never going to happen.

ALADDIN
I’ll make it happen. I’ll use my third wishes to set you free.

GENIE
Please don’t get my hopes up if you don’t mean it.

ALADDIN
(stares into GENIE’s eyes)
I promise.
GENIE
Well, all right. Anyway, what are you going to wish for?

ALADDIN
Well, there’s this girl-

GENIE
(groans)
Nope, I can’t make anyone fall in love. Next wish, please.

ALADDIN
Oh, right. But, if you saw her, you’d understand. She’s everything a man could wish for. Plus,
she’s a princess. Wait, I might have a chance with her if I’m a prince! That’s it! Genie, I wish
to become a prince.

GENIE
At last.
(GENIE, rubbing hands together, prepares for the makeover.)
Prepare to be astonished, everybody!

SCENE 7: PALACE

(SULTAN and JASMINE enter.)

SULTAN
Jasmine, you shouldn’t have been out all by yourself!
JASMINE
I wasn’t by myself. I was with Aladdin. And the guards-

(JAFAR and IAGO enter and stand beside SULTAN.)

JAFAR
Your Majesty. Rest assured. Razoul brought the Princess’s kidnapper to me. He had
received his death sentence.

JASMINE
What? How could you?! He was innocent!
(JASMINE tries her best not to cry.)

(#23 – PRINCE ALI.)

(The ENTOURAGE bows to ALADDIN. #24 – PRINCE ALI – PLAYOFF. SULTAN

enters as the ENTOURAGE exits with GENIE. ALADDIN approaches SULTAN and
bows.)

ALADDIN
Your Majesty. It is great pleasure to make your acquaintance. I have traveled many miles to
seek the hand of your daughter. I am Prince Ali of Ababwa!

SULTAN
Well, this is good news! I’m delighted to meet you, my boy.

JAFAR
Let me tell you, Prince. As the Sultan’s Grand Vizier – someone who has known the
Princess her entire life, I must say that you are not her type.

ALADDIN
Oh really? Rich, charming, and handsome. I’m everybody’s type. The Princess will fall for
me on the spot. No doubt.

JASMINE
(steps forward)
The audacity of you gentlemen standing around deciding my future! I can’t believe this. I’m
not a prize to be won!
(JASMINE exits.)

ALADDIN
Wait, Princess!

(SULTAN, JAFAR, and IAGO exit. GENIE appears.)

GENIE
So how’s it going, “Prince Ali”!

ALADDIN
Terrible. Genie, I completely blew it with the Princess. I need to try harder or else she’s going
to figure out that I’m not really royalty!

GENIE
Now, hold on, Al. I gave you all this makeover with the magic carpet…
(removes ALADDIN’S turban)

But the main event is you! Just be yourself! I believe you can sweep the Princess off her feet
if you just be yourself.

ALADDIN
That’s the last thing I want to be. If Jasmine found out that I was some nobody, she’d laugh
in my face!

(ALADDIN puts on his turban and exits.)

GENIE
Ugh, princes!

(GENIE exits in the opposite direction. #25 – TRANSITION TO JASMINE’S

BALCONY.)
