COURSEWORK ASSESSMENT
Coursework Objectives:
STIMULUS:
“Courses in listening and speaking skills have a prominent place in language
programs around the world today. Ever-growing needs for fluency in English
around the world, because of the role of English as the world’s international
language, have given priority to finding more effective ways to teach English. It
is therefore timely to review what our current assumptions and practices are
concerning the teaching of these crucial language skills.” (Richard, 2016)
TASK 1: LESSON PLAN (20%) (SBE)
i) You are required to observe a complete listening and speaking skills lesson of
any Year (Year 1 – Year 5) in a selected Primary school for your SBE. Based on
your SBE, prepare a portfolio by compiling 3 lesson plans for listening and
speaking skills. The lesson that you observed needs to include the following:
- learning objectives
- teaching and learning materials
- assessment tasks
- implementation
ii) Include your original observation notes
iii) Append pictures of various activities in the class, teaching and learning materials
as your evidences.
iv) Based on the SBE, plan a full lesson to teach listening and speaking skills. Your
lesson plan must include the listening and speaking activities and appropriate
assessment.
v) The assignment is an individual assignment.
i) Based on the same lesson plan above, design the teaching-learning materials
that will include a recorded drama by using age appropriate script in line with 21 st
Century learning.
ii) This assignment is an individual assignment.
iii) This assignment is ‘interdisciplinary’ with the assignment of TSLB3073,
TSLB3233 & TSLB3243 (Refer to the assignment question). The KPPB project is
referring the same materials.
i) Choose one of the lessons from your group and micro teach one stage of the full
lesson prepared.
ii) This assignment is a group assignment.
iii) This assignment is ‘interdisciplinary’ with the assignment of TSLB3073, TSLB3233 &
TSLB3243 (Refer to the assignment question). The KPPB project is referring the
same materials.

TASK 4 : REFLECTIVE ESSAY- SIMULATED TEACHING (15%)
On 6 November 2020, I had submitted a simulated teaching video for year 6 and the
focused skill is listening and speaking. It is one of the tasks for the subject TSLB3063
Teaching of Listening and Speaking skills in the Primary ESL classroom. It is group work and
my group members are Nurul Hamizah and NurHusna. In this simulated teaching, we have
decided to choose Nurul Hamizah’s lesson plan. The material that is emphasized in this
lesson plan is the Aladdin adapted script taken from the Task 2 Adapted Script for the subject
Drama because this task is interdisciplinary with it. The topic for this lesson plan is A Window
to The World under the theme World of Stories. The stages that I had chosen are production
and closure meanwhile, Hamizah did the practice and Husna did the set induction and
presentation.
Before I carry out the simulated teaching, I did a few rehearsals on the lesson plan
that I was going to present. The rehearsals helped me to be confident in front of the camera
and I was able to teach with the natural flow as if there were pupils in front of me.
Furthermore, since my part included the closure, I was trying to make the session as fun as I
could. I personally think that the strength in this simulated teaching for my part is the way I
interact with the audience. It was hard to act like I was talking to someone when in fact there
was nothing in front of me. For example, when I told the pupils to bring out their colour
pencils to complete the task which is create a mind map, I told them to make use of the
expensive colour pencils that their parents bought to give them motivation in doing the task
diligently so that they could be as creative and innovative as they could with their task. Next,
for the closure part, I recapped the lesson and emphasized the moral values so that the
pupils could implement them in their life. I also gave out a worksheet as the homework so
that they can revise on their own. In addition, I have a good voice projection and enjoy the
teaching session as I included some humour during the teaching and learning process. I also
was able to engage with the pupils’ participation in the lesson and maintained eye contact
with the audience.
