Copper Corrosion Test

a qualitative method that is used to determine the level of corrosion of petroleum products.

We measure copper corrosion inorder to know if the product can corrode the parts of the equipments
using such product.

copper has taken as standard, though there are more corrosion resistant materials such as silver.

why we measure flash point

Flash point is the lowest temperature at which the vapour of material takes fire in the form of a flash,
under specified conditions of test.

we measure flash point in order to know how much is fire risk observed as it is the lowest temperature
at which a risk of fire exists with a given liquid.

why we measure density

Density is a measure of the “compactness” of matter within a substance.

we measure density in order to know how much energy will be needed for flow of the "product" in the
tubes for consuming.

why we measure distillation

Distillation is the process of separating the components or substances from a liquid mixture by using
selective boiling and condensation. Distillation may result in essentially complete separation.

we measure distillation to know boiling point point of product and composition of product .

why we measure cloud point

cloud point is the temperature which the particles in the solution (petroleum product) starts to form
precipitate.

we measure cloud point inorder to know if the product can withstand the temperature of environment
without change its state to solid from liquid state.

why we measure pour point

pour point is the minimum temperature which the material can flow freely.

we measure pour point in order to know if the product can withstand the temperature of environment
without change its state to solid from liquid state hence can be used safely.

why we measure viscosity

viscosity is the measure of thickness or stickyness of material.

we measure viscosity to know the rate at which a product travels through a pipe.
