Ex:-food processing plant, cold air may be required at –30 C for freezing and at +7 C for cooling of food

products or space cooling.

 A refrigeration installation using CCL2F2 (R-12) comprises one compressor, one condenser and
three evaporators of capacities 30 ton, 20 ton and 10 ton respectively. The temperature to be
maintained in the evaporators is 10 0C, 50C and –100C respectively. Each evaporator is fitted with an
individual expansion valve. The condenser pressure is to be maintained at 9.5944 bar. The exit
conditions from the evaporator is to be dry saturated vapour, and the liquid is under cooed to 30 0C in
the condenser. Determine:

i) Refrigeration effect/kg in each evaporator,

ii) Mass flow rate in each evaporator and total mass flow rate,
iii) Compressor power
iv) C.O.P. of the system.
