LABRADOR: A Place that I Truly Love and Adore

A town of beauteous and grandeous resorts, a cradle of crystal-like beaches filled with
aromatic and therapeutic breeze you would enjoy. Come and experience the warmth,
care and comfort of the peaceful Labradorians in our blessed and historic land.
Labrador is a village in Lingayen and it is located on the eastern side of the Tubuang
River. It was named in honor of Patron San Isidro Labrador.
The municipality of Labrador is surrounded by mountains full of big trees and by the
Lingayen Gulf. Labrador is the surname of Saint Isidore who has been the patron saint
of farmers since 1900.
But according to a story of other people, the name was also taken from “kargador” and
“labra” which means “worker”, “laborer” or cutter of logs as there were many of these
logs in that municipality before.
The area has been occupied by farmers and fishermen, the Augustinians also built the
first chapel in Pangasinan in the area during the Limahong attack. But because of the
poor relations between the inhabitants the missionaries were forced to leave Labrador
and move to Lingayen.
In 1755 the town became the Dominican area and was given a casa vicaria and became
known as a full town or pueblo. Captain Vicente Escano served as the town’s first
mayor.
From being San Isidro Labrador de Tubuang, it was replaced by Labrador only in 1939
by virtue of Republic Act No. 2390.
