THE PROJECT
I. Rationale
Each year students are required to have reference materials on hand that will aid
them in their coursework. Most of the time these are outsourced as the materials are
made available by publishing companies.
The establishment of an Instructional Materials Development Center will pave the
way for internal production of resource materials. Instead of depending on outside
sources to provide these resource materials, the University can offer the more viable
option of quality yet affordable resource materials. These will undergo assessment by
the University IMD Committee in coordination with CHED to guarantee that the said
materials are publishable and will be copyrighted.
When the production of quality resource materials is made available in the
University, both the students and the teachers will be benefitted. The former will be
able to save on their expenses while the latter will be encouraged to come up with
their own resource materials in their field of expertise which will be passed for
evaluation and copyrighted with the support of the University. This will then become
over time a potential income generating project of the University.
The main priority of this project is to ensure that there is a designated office that
can assess existing instructional materials by faculty members and consequently
produce these for students’ use. These will be submitted to the University IMD
Committee for evaluation.
Each college has the IMD Chair whose role is to ensure that the faculty members
are providing their students with relevant and up-to-date resource materials. The
college coordinators will work closely with the University IMD Committee to
promote the production of quality instructional materials.
With the support of the administration for the faculty development program, there
will be an initiative to hold training programs to enhance their skills in crafting
resource materials pertinent to the course offerings in the University.
The output of the training programs will be the instructional materials per area of
specialization made by the teachers. These will be processed with the support of
the University Committee to enable the teachers to obtain the copyright of their
publications.
The implementation of the said project will benefit both the students and the teachers
alike. Students will have access to less costly yet first-rate resource materials
produced by their own teachers with the support of the University. Furthermore, this
will become a potential income generating project for years to come.
