(3points each)

11.1 Assessment and Evaluation

Assessment is defined as a systematic way of acquiring, reviewing and using information

about a particular topic, to improve and enhance effectively a certain skills. It is done to enhance
the teachers strategies in the teaching and learning process while evaluation assesses the
students’ performance. It shows the effectiveness of a certain strategy of the teacher. It is an on-
going interactive process where assessment tackles and scope different aspects such as either
performance, content knowledge or written works. An assessment tries to determine the strength
and weaknesses that needs to improvement. This process includes creating objectives, collecting
information and using the information for increasing quality. The feedback will fall on
observation and positive & negative points where there is a specific criteria that both the assesor
and assessee knows. For example, the teacher assess the students knowledge about the story of
Romeo and Juliet through comprehensive questions or role playing that falls into performance.
While, evaluation focuses on making a judgment about values, numbers or performance of
someone or something. Evaluations determines the extent to which objectives are achieved and it
is also focus on the grades of the student. Assessment is made to identify the level of
performance of an individual, whereas evaluation is performed to determine the degree to which
goals are attained. Assessment is process oriented while evaluation is more on the product
oriented.

11.2 Test and Measurement

A test are specific instrument for assessment where this reflects on the records of the
students’ learning outcome when administering the test there is a technique necessary.
Administration of a test is a process of measurement, without test, measurement is not
possible. While measurement is a technique necessary for evaluation. It represent status of a
certain attributes or properties and is a terminal process. It is the process of identifying or
describing the characteristics of a particular object or subject in terms of quantity.

11.3 Performance sample and Test and measure of actual performance

Performance sample is a product of students’ work through their achievement and it

measures the particular output. Some of the example is portfolio and exhibit where it is presented
through an output. While the measurement of actual performance occurs in a specific time
wherein it is very important to the teachers that have a systematic sequence of work and time.
Also, it is more on the performance of the student that explicit skills by performing it and there is
a criteria that measures a specific skills such as role playing, dancing or communicating.

12. Give each model used in authentic assessment a sample and explain how the sample is used.
(3 points each)

The first model, is about observation- based assessment, it is systematic and objective. It
can be done through checklist wherein they can determine the child’s development whether it is
adequately or it delays. It is the use of physical characteristics and uses a specific and standard
observation tool that contains a lot of questions or statements to answer. It include date and
information that the student have collected for daily works of the students. Some of the specific
tool for this includes Group development record sheet, observation checklist and interview
sheets.

The second model is performance samples assessments tools it provides the structure
students need to work more independently and to encourage them to pay attention to the quality
of their work. In creating performance task assessment lists, teachers focus on what students
need to know and be able to do guided by the objective and student learning outcomes. One of
the example is portfolio that showcases the compilation of best works of the student.

The third model is performance assessment tool where it consist a list of behavior that
measures a certain skills. This includes assessing actual performance and describes and identify
the certain behaviors like communication, activities and remarks. It is the actual performance
that can be assess using a criteria.

13. Is intelligence nature or nurture? (10 points)

Personally, it is both nature and nurture as one student can both adapt, learn and acquire
knowledge genetically and in environment. As a human we inherited some characteristics and
attributes on our parents that contributes a lot on our mental development.  It is about
genetic factors, and have even identified certain genes that play a role. They've also shown that
performance in school has genetic factors especially those things that a person is interested or
how think or the learning styles. There are also some students who were born with high IQ.
There is also a certain characteristic of a brain such as its size, brain activities, sensory
ability, speed and efficiency of neutral transmission and working memory capacity. Some
researchers found out that the nature affects the intelligence of the person rather than the
environment factors

While it is also nurtured as the intelligence of the student can be improved and enhanced
through environmental factors such as In terms of education, the situation on the society and
issues on a particular place where they belong such as poverty. The experiences of the child also
affects how one thinks and views about a particular topic. As Piaget stated that interaction and
observation is the way of a child to learn and perform a specific role and connects prior
knowledge and new knowledge effectively. The reason why a twin who have raised in different
family will have a different IQ because of social and environmental factors that they have faced.
 14. In the assessment of your multiple intelligences, what 2 intelligences are your strengths, is it

accurate/related to your SELF/PERSONALITY, why or why not? (5 points)

I got 4. 86 in both social and linguistic where in I have chose this field because I think I
am good at this. First, social it is about getting along and interacting with others and we all know
that we are capable of doing that only if we have a good sense of understanding ourselves. I
think knowing who you wants to be how to interact with the people whom you like and shares
the same thoughts with you is accurately related to intrapersonal. I am fong of be friending the
people around me and talking about different issue about life and beyond it. I love hanging out
with them and talking about deep secrets that usually gives me a lot of valuable lesson on life. It
is about how you treat others the way you want to be treated, it is about knowing your own
weaknesses based on the lesson that the people around you created. It’s like understanding your
environment the way you tries to understand them. Second is linguistic, since I was young I am
so fond of taking and expressing my own opinion in different formats, it can be in a form of
journal, essay or even poem. I love to talk and tell stories that makes me a good communicator
and a good listener.

15. In the same intelligence assessment, what 2 intelligences are your weaknesses, it

accurate/related to your SELF/PERSONALITY, why or why not? What will you do improve

that particular weaknesses? (5 points)

Honestly, since I was young it is hard for me to relate myself to numbers and music
although I am really interested I can’t just get it easily. The result of the assessment proves me
the idea that logic/ math and music is my weakness. Personally, I tried to join mini bands and
MTAP to further enhance my skills before the reason why atleast it is somehow improved. It is
really accurate for me because when discussing or listening to the song I have to repeat it 2- 3
times to understand or get it’s tune.

I think attending to seminars, reading articles and exposing myself to these two fields will
help me improve it somehow. I’ll keep on practicing solving equations and analyzing problem
solving situation. While for music I’ll try to enhance my skills in using music instrument such as
using lyre and piano. I’ll keep my focus and try to look at the purpose to make myself engage in
this two fields.
