Tasks to do after watching Pride and Prejudice

Plot summary: Pride and Prejudice is a humorous story of love and life among English
gentility during the Georgian era. Mr Bennet is an English gentleman living in
Hartfordshire with his overbearing wife. The Bennets 5 daughters; the beautiful Jane,
the clever Elizabeth, the bookish Mary, the immature Kitty and the wild Lydia.
Unfortunately for the Bennets, if Mr Bennet dies their house will be inherited by a
distant cousin whom they have never met, so the family's future happiness and security
is dependent on the daughters making good marriages. Life is uneventful until the
arrival in the neighbourhood of the rich gentleman Mr Bingley, who rents a large house
so he can spend the summer in the country. Mr Bingley brings with him his sister and
the dashing (and richer) but proud Mr Darcy. Love is soon in the air for one of the
Bennet sisters, while another may have jumped to a hasty prejudgment. For the Bennet
sisters many trials and tribulations stand between them and their happiness, including
class, gossip and scandal.

Mr. Collins visits the Bennett family.

Their family is connected each other that is why they know each other since the
day they were born.

8. How many reasons does Mr. Collins have for marrying?

There are three reasons does Mr. Collins have for marrying. First, he is a
clergyman that needs a mistress to be found in a particular area. Second, it will
add to his happiness as a man. Lastly, it will honored and bring him a very pleased
living as presumed his patroness.

After the watching the first part of the film, discuss these questions.

1. Why does Mrs. Bennett make Jane go to Netherfield on horseback?

Mrs. Bennet wants Jane go to Netherfield because she wants to keep her with
Mr. Bingley so that they can spend more time together. She assumes that rain is
coming and Jane will be drenched so that she will force to stay in the Netherfield.
Instead of using the carriage, she let Jane ride on the horseback.

2. What is the reason that Mr. Collins visits the Bennett family?
The reason why Mr. Collins visits the Bennett family is because he wants to marry
one of their daughters named Elizabeth.

3. Summarize the conflict between Mr. Darcy and Mr. Wikkham.

4. Mr. Darcy and Mr. Wikkham are childhood friends. Out of jealousy, according to
Mr. Wikkham, he ruined his life. Also, Mr. Wikham is lazy and left in disgrace. He is
always asking Mr Darcy for money to pay his debts and this causes their relation to
break. He also tells Elizabeth that Mr. Darcy cheated him about the inheritance,
which makes her harden her heart against Darcy for seeming dishonestly and
more failing.

Darcy separate Bingly and Jane because Elizabeth refuses his offer. He believes like
Elizabeth, jane might not return his affection towards to him. He also believes that Jane
might fool and refuses Bingly too.

5. Where is Lydia invited to go?

Lydia is invited to go in Brighton to spend her summer by the wife of the Colonel
Forsters. Her husband allows her to go, looking forward that the colonel will keep her
out of trouble.
 6. Why does Lizzy say that she doesn’t want to visit Mr. Darcy’s home?
Lizzy doesn’t want to visit Mr. Darcy’s home because she already knew that he is rich
and she avoid to make others think that she fell in love with him because of his money.

Mr. Darcy will pay his debts with Wikkhams with a total of 1,000 pounds, buying his
commission at about 450 pounds for him to marry Lydia and avenge to Mr. Darcy.

Yes because she believes and hope that this guy will court one of her daughters.

She says that Dracy and Miss Derbourgh are intended to be for each other Lady
Catherine then tells Elizabeth that the match between the two cannot be ruined by this
young woman of inferior birt, with no importance in the world and wholly unallied
family.

After the movie, discuss these questions

1. Why is everyone so concerned that Lydia ran off with Mr. Wikkham?
It becomes a big deal because running off means ruining your family’s social reputation for
yourself. In that Era, it becomes a big deal because social standing and reputation plays a big part in
your life. You will be judge by the reputation that you had and the past mistakes that you have made.
Lydia’s decision leads to tarnishing not just her life but also all of his family. Everyone is so concerned
that Lydia ran off with Mr. Wikkham because of the thought that Mr. Wikkham will hurt or abandoned
her because of the revenge he wanted to do with Mr. Darcy. Lydia and Georgina were about at the same
age when Wikkham tried on eloping them and that is his plan to ruin Mr. Darcy.

2. What elements of: love, marriage, money, self-knowledge and human relationships
did you see in the movie?
Personally, all forms of love that involves marriage, money, self-knowledge and human
relationships. Elizabeth’s pride makes her misjudged Mr. Darcy while his prejudice is against on the first
impression of Elizabeth. May be there are some sort of curiosity between its elements but this movie
explored romance with class. This movie shows the different aspects of love such us love for money,
love for your family, self-love, love for friends and the love that can be bought (dowry). This movie also
shows that social reputations can be change buy a simple mistake even if you do it for your own good
people will just look at the side that they can see and not the side that only you can see. It also explains
how money changes a person and how love evolves throughout the person’s heart.

3. Did you like the movie? Why or Why not?

Yes, because these plot is usually common on this generation. Most of the times
they tend to choose a partner practically when it comes to financial matters. I like the fact
that it shows how pride and prejudice creates misunderstanding for both of them. I learned
in the movie that love should never be dictating nor arranged. I believe that in the end, you
will be destined to someone at all costs. This movie shows different kinds of love when it
comes to familial and romance love. I appreciate the flow of the story even though
sometimes it brings us tension towards the scenario in the movie. I do like the movie
because it showcases the realities in life. I can also somewhat relate to it because there are
characters involved that can also represent some people that are part of my life. Through
this video, I learned that we must learn how to think for our own good and not for what is
good for the eyes of the others. I learned that other people will never see the real you by
just looking at you and that we need to look deeper to a person in order to know them
 better. Lastly, this video reminds me that a person is bound to love and be loved not by the
money and physical characteristics that he has but by the whole personality that he has.
