NUMBER OF ASSIGNMENT: 1
Epoxy
The bonding is covalent in which there is sharing of
electrons to stay together.
Barium sulfide-
The bonding is predominantly ionic (but with some
covalent character) on the basis of the relative positions of
Ba and S in the periodic table.
Solid xenon
the bonding is van der Waals since xenon is an inert gas.
Bronze,
The bonding is metallic since it is a metal alloy
(composed of copper and tin).
Steel
The bonding is metallic as metal ions are held together by
metallic bond formed as one electron from each atom
becomes delocalized forming a cloud of electrons.
Nylon
In nylon the bonding is covalent with perhaps some van
der Waals. (Nylon is composed primarily of carbon and
hydrogen.)
Aluminum phosphide
The bonding is predominantly covalent (but with some
ionic character) on the basis of the relative positions of Al
and P in the periodic table.
4.
The reasons are in terms of the bonding as intermolecular
bonding for HF is hydrogen, whereas for HCl, the
intermolecular bonding is van der Waals. Since the
hydrogen bond is stronger than van der Waals, HF will
have a higher melting temperature.
5.
The electronegativity of the elements are were found as
For Ti =2, al=1.6, and therefore,
%IC = 1 − e(−0.25)(2−1.6)2 × 100 = 10.0%
B as the bond is covalent bond since %ic is 10% which is
less comparatively and less polar.
