Introduction:

Past tens

Conversation 1:

L: Minako! How was your trip? I’m dying to hear all about it.

M: It was fantastic, Lynn. I love it.

L: So, what did you think of San Francisco?

M: Beautiful. Have you ever been there?

L: No, I haven’t, but I’ve always wanted to go. Tell me all about it.

Conversation 2:

M: Hmm. Where do I start? It really is a wonderful city. Mostly because it’s so different.
Everywhere you look there are hilly street, beautiful old Victorian homes and buildings, the bay,
and of course the Golden Gate Bridge.

L: Was it easy to get around?

M: Oh, yeah. I walked a lot, but when I got tired it was easy to get a bus. The bus system is
really efficient and inexpensive, but the buses are a bit run-down. I also took the subway a
couple of times. It was cheap, fast, and comfortable.

L: How about the cable care?

M: They were always packed with people, but they were fun to ride.

Conversation 3:

L: What were the restaurants like?

M: There’s a real variety. We had seafood at fisherman’s Wharf. It was really fresh and
delicious, but it was kind of expensive. And we went to Chinatown for dinner one night. The
food there was really spicy, but good.

L: How was your hotel?

M: It was small and very old. I felt like I was in an old movie! It wasn’t fancy at all, but it was
clean and well-kept, and the rates were reasonable.

L: Sounds wonderful. San Francisco, here I come.
