SESSION 5 MY HOLIDAYS
Read the text and underline the verbs in the simple past. Lee el

My holidays this year were simply amazing! I had two weeks, so I decided to do
something special: go on a road trip to France.
I have some friends in different cities, so I stayed with them and I didn't have to
book any hostels. It was very cheap! First, I drove to Barcelona. I didn't stay
long, but I went to the beach. It was mild for the winter, and I even had a quick
swim!
After Barcelona, I went to Toulouse. The city is not very big, but it is lively and
welcoming. I had a wonderful time. After two days, I drove north to Paris. It is a
very interesting city, but it is huge and stressful.
I also visited Lyon and Montpellier. I especially enjoyed the street markets in
Montpellier, where I bought some lovely wine.
I hope I can do this some other time, it was a great holiday idea!
¡Mis vacaciones de este año fueron simplemente increíbles! Tenía dos semanas,
así que decidí hacer algo especial: hacer un viaje por carretera a Francia.
Tengo algunos amigos en diferentes ciudades, así que me quedé con ellos y no tuve
que reservar ningún albergue. ¡Era muy barato! Primero conduje hasta Barcelona.
No me quedé mucho tiempo, pero fui a la playa. Hacía templado para el invierno,

SESSION 12 WHAT HAPPENED?
A STRANGE ACCIDENT
It was my wife´s birthday last month and I bought her an exotic plant for a
present. She loved it and we put it in the living room. Later that evening I was
in the bedroom and I heard and scream. It was my wife. I ran into the living
room and saw her on the coffe table. There´s a snake under the sofa! She
shouted. It cameo ut of the plant. I got down on the floor and looked under the
sofa. At that momento, my cat, Fluffy, came near me and touched my leg. I
thought it was the snake and fainted. My wife panicked and called an
ambulance. Twenty minutes later, the paramedics arrived and put me onto a
stretcher. Suddenly, one of the paramedics saw the snake and dropped the
stretcher. And what happened to me? Well, I fell off stretcher and broke my
arm! Exotic plants? Never again.
El mes pasado fue el cumpleaños de mi esposa y le compré una planta
exótica como regalo. A ella le encantó y lo pusimos en el salón. Más
tarde esa noche estaba en el dormitorio y escuché un grito. Era mi
esposa. Corrí a la sala y la vi en la mesa de café. ¡Hay una serpiente
debajo del sofá! Ella gritó. Salió de la planta. Me tiré al suelo y miré
debajo del sofá. En ese momento, mi gato Fluffy se acercó a mí y me
tocó la pierna. Pensé que era la serpiente y me desmayé. Mi esposa
entró en pánico y llamó a una ambulancia. Veinte minutos después
llegaron los paramédicos y me pusieron en una camilla. De repente, uno de
los paramédicos vio la serpiente y dejó caer la camilla. ¿Y qué me pasó?
Bueno, ¡me caí de la camilla y me rompí el brazo! ¿Plantas exóticas?
Nunca más.

As a child, I was very shy. I did not like to play with other
children and I was always alone. My parents were worried
about me, but I think I was happy that way, with my pictures
and my imagination. I was always making up stories and
drawing them. Maybe that was why I became an illustrator
later. I was not interested in school at all, but I managed
to get good marks, and all my teachers were very impressed
and said I was exceptionally smart. I don’t know if they were
right, but I did very well in high school and university
later on.
Cuando era niña era muy tímida. No me gustaba jugar con otros
niños y siempre estaba sola. Mis padres estaban preocupados por
mí, pero creo que yo era feliz así, con mis dibujos y mi
imaginación. Siempre estaba inventando historias y
dibujándolas. Quizás por eso me convertí más tarde en
ilustrador. No estaba interesado en la escuela en absoluto,
pero logré sacar buenas notas y todos mis profesores quedaron
muy impresionados y dijeron que era excepcionalmente
inteligente. No sé si tenían razón, pero luego me fue muy bien
en la escuela secundaria y en la universidad.
