The Art of Feedback Reflections

 How was your peer feedback experience similar to and different from your past
experiences?
I feel as though when I was younger, when I had to give peer review, it felt heavy handed and
like I didn’t have the vocabulary to accurately demonstrate the feedback I tired to convey. Also, I like
to think I wasn’t as socially capable of communicating with other people as I am now. Of course, I’ve
grown as a person and I’m able to to better interact with others, so in other words the way I construct
criticism I give hasn’t changed but the way I convey it has. However, I must say there is a lack of face
to face interactivity that I would normally have, considering this is through a discussion board.
Normally when I had the person in front of me, I am able to build off of my feedback kind of like
improvising upon it, but now I just have to display the basic meat and bones of my criticism.

 What was your experience like crafting constructive responses to your peers’
work?
Nothing different from how I usually give feedback to my peers usually. Like I said, it is
different not having the person in front of me. I feel as though considering my skills have improved,
I would be able to help them enhance their work and identify what they need to improve if I was
physically there with them. I’ve always somewhat taken the way I give feedback seriously and I don’t
try to shoddily provide them with lackluster criticism. That usually throws off people at first but in
this situation, I’m not actually talking with them, so overall the experience has it’s ups and downs but
mostly positive.

 What kind of impact did receiving peer feedback have on your revision ideas?
In general, the feedback I was given had a very helpful effect on me. Because after reading the
feedback my team left, I almost understood their perspective and I realized the imperfections of my
essay. I understood where they were coming from and I also agreed with them on what I could
improve and be rid of. It was a healthy exchange of information and I’m glad it was a good experience
overall. Combined with my own personal judgments, my writing is more well-rounded and coherent
and has a great overall flow of information that’s not confusing at all and gets straight to the point
while also providing additional details that drive the essay’s message forward. I can safely, without
my peer’s feedback, my essay would’ve suffered greatly, and I wouldn’t have improved nearly as
much as I have now.
