3. A) Initially a product marketer company via the internet that sells products through hotline
services and the company will move its service center from the US to India. By calculation, labor
costs in India are very cheap, so that one head in the US can pay many heads in India. An
American employee assigned to train some of their outsourcing employees in India actually has a
very simple moral message, respect the culture of others. Todd, the employee, was very unwilling
to be placed in the country. But what can he do. The choice is simply to follow the Boss's wishes,
or he loses his job. So he went to India. First impression? A country that is dirty, densely
populated, dirty, very disorderly, and various other ugly things. Which is, all aspects of life, how
to dress, how to think, how to communicate, and so different from the culture that Todd has
because he is an American. Todd experienced a lot of difficulties and the culture shock was very
early when he moved to India. Because since Todd arrived in India, he has brought American
thought and culture. Aggravation in the strangeness of India's sundries and pressure from Todd's
superiors made Todd even more insane. The culture and nature of Indians who are very counter to
Todd, add to his days in India increasingly hopeless. Even worse, Todd was constantly pressured
by his superiors in America so that his team in India managed to hit the target. If not, Todd may
not return from India. Luckily, Todd was accompanied by his native Indian manager. That way,
Todd is easy to understand and understand if there are wrong in his communication while
working in India. Eventually, Todd realized that he had to start learning and adapting to Indian
culture, in order to achieve his goals in a more effective and efficient manner. He took off his
American clothes, abandoned his American mindset and replaced everything with Indian clothes
and mindset, the place where he stood.

B) A product marketing company via the internet sold products through a hotline service. The
company will move its service center from US to India. By calculation, labor costs in India are
very cheap, so that one head in the US can pay many heads in India. Todd was chosen as an
American employee to be transferred to America. Initially Todd always refused his boss's offer
and was very unwilling to be placed in the country. But what can he do. The choice is simply to
follow the Boss's wishes, or he loses his job. So he went to India. Just arrived at the airport alone,
Todd had been shocked by the extra-extreme Bombay airport. The taxi driver there immediately
"attacked" Todd so he could take the taxi. Todd, who was confused, chose the taxi driver who
was silent. Just as Todd wanted to put up his suitcase in a taxi, the driver even carried Todd's bag
to his bajaj. It turned out that Todd was mistaken. The person who according to Todd is a taxi
driver is a bajaj driver. Todd has not lost his surprise that he had to go to the train station to ride
an auto rickshaw, Todd was added to be surprised at the scenery at the Indian train station. Todd
was shocked by the train cars that were so full of people. Eventually Todd was able to get into the
train with no easy effort. Todd has to get on the train by jumping into a train full of people. When
Todd wanted to sit, there were no empty chairs and then there was a child who gave Todd his
seat. After Todd sat down, the child sweetly sat on Todd's lap. Arriving at Gharapuri, Todd was
greeted with a man who turned out to be a messenger from the office where Todd was placed.
This man named Puro. He was very excited at the arrival of Todd. He told Todd a lot about
Gharapuri.

C) Their target is 6 minutes for the average resolution of complaints on the phone. The time is
now 12 minutes, not an easy task to cut it in half. The clash occurred at the beginning, Todd still
brought his American clothes and mindset to India. Target feels impossible to achieve. How
could they possibly work well with a cow hanging around in a workspace? Especially without
knowledge of Indian culture itself. Todd, the American employee, is stressed to live in India,
because of differences in culture and habits. Especially about Indian food that is so spicy that
doesn't suit the taste. In addition, Todd is also confused by the low quality of services provided by
his employees to customers. There are people who like to joke until they invite someone to get
married, there are people who like to get angry. Todd often gets into misunderstandings between
himself and other employees. Even on Todd's first day of work, there was already a lot of culture
shock that occurred to Todd. Todd is getting dizzy and stressed by the existing culture shock.
Because of his ego that still wants to use the culture he has, that is American, Todd is stressed and
dizzy every day because of many problems related to cultural misunderstandings. In the end,
Todd decided to take off his American clothes, abandon his American mindset and replace
everything with Indian clothes and mindset, the place where he stood. Todd realized that he had
to start learning and adapting to Indian culture, in order to achieve his goals in a more effective
and efficient manner. And apparently Todd succeeded. With hard work the target was finally
fulfilled. Todd's formula was not in vain, with the Indian way and mindset he managed to defeat
the target made from across the ocean.

4. A) Different cultures have different value systems and therefore help determine different life
goals. The way we communicate depends very much on our culture: our language, rules and
norms. In the process of communication between people from different cultures, a more
comprehensive understanding is needed. Studying other people's culture is one way to realize that
understanding. With an understanding between people of different cultures, communication will
be more effective and the purpose of a communication process can be achieved. Therefore it is
very important to learn what intercultural communication sees its purpose in line with the goal of
achieving effective communication. Communication becomes very important in intercultural
business interactions. Therefore we need several things that make business interactions become
more effective and achieve targets. In my opinion, the factors that can influence the outcome of
intercultural interaction are very important to remember. Different cultures mean different ideas,
and differ in everyday behavior. Different cultures mean different communication strategies. A
person who only understands the local language will not be able to understand if he receives a
message in Indonesian. A person whose culture is so polite to parents will not accept anyone who
does not respect the elder. A person who is accustomed to his culture as he is will not accept a
culture full of pretense. When we interact with people who are culturally different from us, we
must adjust how we think, how to talk, how to behave with that person. Because that way,
business interactions will be easier, and can also reduce misunderstandings. Another factor is
self-awareness, when interacting with people who are culturally different from us, the attitude of
respecting other cultural members as human beings, the attitude of respecting other cultures as
they are, and not as we wish, the attitude of respecting the rights of other cultural members to act
differently from the way we act. Competent cross-cultural communicators must learn to enjoy life
with people from other cultures. In my opinion, these factors become one of the determinants of
an effective communication process. Based on that, we can determine the strategy or
communication method used in a communication process.

B) Each organizational leader seeks to build the organization through achieving the vision,
mission, goals and targets that have been set. One of the strategic efforts and must be done by
leaders is to understand the multicultural Human Resources (HR) owned by its members. They
are no longer homogeneous because the organization is now open, coming from various regions,
having diverse races, ethnicities, religions, and cultures. Leaders who succeed in building
organizations should treat them fairly in carrying out every day-to-day activities. Multicultural
education in organizations is a form of education and learning that brings together history, text,
values, beliefs and perspectives of individuals with cultural backgrounds. Its implementation in
the organization is shown by the leader by modifying or integrating learning to reflect the cultural
differences of the employees. That is, leaders in building multicultural organizations need to
understand and adopt the success of multicultural education. Multicultural education in this
organization refers to studies that aim to teach and treat members / subordinates fairly from
employees who have racial, ethnic, social class, cultural backgrounds, including those with
special needs in the organization. The leader should want to learn about the cultural background
of the members of the organization, build learning experiences that are relevant to the members,
learn the members to learn about the culture of the other members as a whole with different
cultural backgrounds they have, share and discuss interesting cultures. The leader must be open
with his employees. With openness, leaders can trust employees, so employees can trust their
leaders. That way, all cultural misunderstandings can be reduced. In conclusion, leaders need to
understand it while using strategies to realize the expected multicultural organization. Leaders
can build it with educational strategies, habituation, and exemplary. Multicultural organizations
are proven to be able to eliminate prejudice, reduce racial pressure, improve the achievements of
minority members, and be able to build organizations such as in a family atmosphere in achieving
long-term goals.

C) In intercultural business interactions, communication becomes one of the important things.

Differences in cultural expectations can lead to fatal risks, at least leading to non-smooth
communication, uncomfortable feelings or misunderstanding. As a result of the many
misunderstandings we encounter in various events that contain ethnocentrism today in the form of
conflicts that lead to riots or interethnic conflicts. Cross-cultural communication is not an easy
thing to do, because it is very difficult to adjust to the differences that occur. Such as the problem
of differences in regional origin, language, traditions or different norms that cause difficulty in
communicating with friends of different cultures. The importance of intercultural communication
requires everyone to recognize the basic panorama of intercultural communication. Between
communication and culture cannot be separated because communication and culture have a very
deep connection. One thing leaders must do to minimize these misconceptions is to choose the
right language between the leader and his team. In my opinion, Language selection is not the
wrong thing, because with the agreement between the leader and his team regarding the language
problem, communication will run smoothly. The leader must continue to engage his team to
continue to learn to respect, understand, and adapt to different cultural environments, especially
in one team. By using one language, this can be possible if we notice that individuals who have
the same language also have the same mindset. This might be one of the reasons why when
someone wants to learn a foreign language, he also needs to get to know the culture of origin of
the language. It is not enough just to learn language, because the meaning and understanding that
we will capture can be different from the real meaning. Usually, the more striking cultural
differences, the greater the ambiguity in communication. That is, one party is difficult to interpret
the other party's behavior. With the similarity of language is expected to reduce uncertainty, so
that it can help someone describe and predict the behavior of others.

D) I agree with the opinion that a good combination between members in a team is more
influential on the effective function of multicultural teams than cultural differences. Such
organizational rules and roles / positions / specific positions are clear because it is believed that
this will stabilize the system. These basic beliefs and assumptions about the clarity of status /
position / role will encourage the formation of a positive culture that will clearly help stabilize an
organization. Almost everyone wants a clear role and status in the organization. With a good
combination of roles in a team, targets will be achieved easily and smoothly. A good combination
of roles can also reduce the level of misunderstanding between teams. Because there are many
factors that affect solidarity in a team, starting from the diversity of functions, differences in
experience, seniority, and personality of team members. There are other elements that can also
affect the team's adhesiveness, that is the cultural background of each team member. If there is a
relatively dominant cultural group in a team, it might not be easy for the minority in the team. So
that this team member is unable to overcome communication barriers, it is not easy to be able to
participate with other members and be heard. Both in terms of giving ideas, colliding arguments,
overcoming differences and conflicts, and making decisions. The cultural diversity that exists in a
team should not be used as an excuse for each member to feel uncomfortable at work. This must
be reiterated, although having diversity among members must still show that they are able to
work together as a team well. The mindset that lies with the leader in a variety of cultures has a
very important role in a team because cultural diversity shows the existence of various kinds of
cultural order, economic order, legal order, political order, every country. In addition, each team
member has a role as a source of education for other employees in the team environment. Thus
providing new experiences among fellow team members.
