SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PRAYER
The following introduction attempts to discuss the idea of the Significance and importance of the
prayer (Salat)
Allah(swt) also revealed to prophet Ibrahim (as) instructing him and his offspring establish prayer.
Therefore; his son Ishmael (as) carried the same message and prayer. Luqman also admonished his son
and said to him “O my son! Establish prayer and enjoin the good and forbid the evil and be patient
against that befalls you; verily this is the taste of steadfastness”. Prophet Issa the son of Mariam had
brought with him Allah’s message of prayer to the people.God (Allah) swt. revealed to the final mes-
senger Prophet Muhammad℗ to convey the message of islam to his people who believe and that they
should establish prayer.
Due to the greatness of the prayers (Salat); God (Allah swt) made every being in the heavens and on
earth know its type of prayer. “Do you not see that God (Allah swt), is exalted by all those who are in the
heavens and the earth and the very birds with spread wings. Each one knows its own type of prayer and
praise. And God (Allah) knows all that you do” Sura Al-Noor {The Light (24:41)}.
Throughout the Holy Book “Quran” we witness that God (Allah) revealed to his Prophet Muham-
mad℗ “recite that which has been revealed to you of the book and keep up prayers, surely prayer
keeps one away from indecency and evil, and certainly the remembrance of God (Allah) is the greatest
and Allah knows what you do”Sura Al-Ankabbot {(The Spider) 29:45}. Praise be upon the believers who
are humble in their prayers and manifest their success in reaching the destined divinely goal in life.
On the other hand, God (Allah) warned the worshippers who are careless of the obligatory daily
prayers and those who don’t remain on track with them by allowing for the exact time of prayers to pass
away in idleness or by chasing worldly business and enjoyment. The Holy Prophet Muhammad℗ said
that prayer is the central pillar of faith. He also stated “if prayer is accepted, then all deeds of a right-
eous individual will also be accepted”.
It has been narrated that the first Holy Imam Ali bin Abi Talib (as) said “ I do not pray or serve God (Al-
lah) out of fear of his chastisement (punishment), for it will be the prayer of slaves, nor do I pray or serve
Allah to get the blessings in heaven which God (Allah) promises, for it will be a trade, rather I pray and
serve him for it is due to Him, and Him alone is worthy to be prayed to and to be served”.
Allah! Bless the Prophet and their followers, and bless Prophet Muhammad℗ and his progeny (as) al-
low us to be of those who keep up prayers following your guidance and observing the teaching of your
divinely religion.

AL-WUDU
When going to the toilet the following rules must be observed:
a) It is recommended not to face or turn one’s backwards the Quilba when urinating or
relieving bowels.
b) After relieving bowels; the relevant discharging area must be cleaned. It is obligatory
( Wajib) to wash the area and to use three separate wiping pieces (such as tissue
paper).
c) Wash the concerned parts of the relevant bowels three times (with water)
d) After urinating; the discharging area must be cleaned completely from “urine”
e) Wash the relevant part of urination three times ( with water).
f) It’s recommended for the left hand to wipe the relative area dry; after cleaning them
After finishing from the toilet, hands need to be washed. Then make niyyat (intention) for
“Wudu”.
4
1) Washing of the Face
After doing the Intention (niyyat), poor water over the face from the top. Then using the right hand, wipe the face
from the top to bottom, in such a way that the water reaches all parts vertically from the hair-
line to chin, and every place horizontally within the reach of the span of the hand from the
middle-finger to the thumb.
It is not obligatory to wash the parts which do not come within the middle-finger and the
thumb; however, there is no harm in including those parts to ensure that all the necessary
parts have been washed.
It is not obligatory to wash the inside of the eyes, the lips, the mouth, the nose, and the
eyelids. If one has beard or moustache, it is enough to wash the hair which are apparent; it
is not necessary to make the water reach the inside of the hair or to the skin. However, if the
hair are so sparse that they do not hide the skin, then one should make the water reach the skin ( repeat two times ).
5
Some General Rules for Wudu
The face and the fore-arms: Enough care should be taken so that all the necessary parts are washed; the wudu will
become invalid if any part (even though it be equal to a pin-point) is left dry.
The wiping of the head and the feet: As mentioned earlier, the wiping must be done with the wetness of the palms, i.
e., after washing both the fore-arms, one is not permitted to wet his hands with `new' water. Likewise, the wiping will be-
come invalid if the wetness of the palms is mixed with the water from other organs of wudu.
What if the palms become dry before one can wipe the head or the feet? In such a case, the palms can be made wet
by wiping from the water from beard, moustache, eye-brows or the other organs of wudu. What if the weather is so hot
that one's face and hands become dry immediately? In such a case, one should do tayammum instead of wudu.
If it is not possible to wipe the head or feet with the palms due to injury, etc., then the following organs may be used
(in order of preference): the upper part of the hands and the inner part of the fore-arm.
Before starting the wudu, make sure that the front part of your head and the top side of your feet are dry; otherwise
your wudu will not be valid. However, slight wetness or dampness can do no harm to your wudu.
Al-Wudu must be repeated again if any of the following factors happen after performing your wudu
1. Discharge of urine
2. Passing wind
3. Relieving of bowels.
4. Sleeping.
5. There are other factors which also break your wudu.
What is a Turbah?
Is a small piece of soil or clay, often a clay tablet, used during salat (Islamic daily prayers) to symbolise earth.
Quibla
It is fixed as the direction of the Kaaba in the Hejazi City of Mecca. Most mosques contain a wall niche that indicates the
Qibla, which is known as a miḥrâb (Arabic: ـراب ْ ) ِم
