adulterous, seductress, who conspired in the demise of her own family, countrymen, and
powerful Romans. Her death at her own hand was the last desperate attempt of an immoral

understanding for visual allegories, strong colorist tendencies, and cubist-inspired aesthetics.
Throuhout his life the Filipino artist inspired by his Catholic faith, with many of his paintings
referencing biblical parables, and religious motifs. The work Fishermen is evident of such
themes, for the painting highlights the Christian story of Jesus and his first disciples. Within the
present painting, the artist embraces there religious motifs as means to convey his absolute
faith, and trust in God.
5. SARIMANOK was painted by Paco Gorospe a Filipino painter known by many as the “Picasso
of the Philippines.” His work is characterized by colourful, neo-Cubist forms of Filipino people,
animals, and cityscapes. Sarimanok is a legendary bird of the Maranao people who originate
from Mindanao, an island in the Philippines. It comes from the words ‘’Sari” and ‘’Manok”. Sari
means cloth or garment which is generally of assorted colors. Manok means ‘’chicken’’. It is said
to be a symbol of a good fortune.

6. PLANTING RICE is a painting of Fernando Amorsolo. The planting rice with Mayon Volcano
exhibits the happiness across from the difficulties in planting rice. I believe this painting is a
representational art as it portrays something other than its form. This painting falls under the
classification of painting as Genre painting as it is painted in the contemporary life of the
Filipino farmers in 1951 when it was painted, as they are engaged in their regular everyday
occupation and activities.

used to refer to a spirit of communal unity and cooperation. The concept of Bayanihan is
traced back to in a country’s tradition which can be observed in rural areas, wherein the town’s
people were asked especially the men to lend a hand to a family who will move into new place.

8. THE PARISIAN LIFE is one of the masterpieces that Luna created when he stayed in Paris,
France from October 1884 to February 1893. The Parisian Life has a playful and relax mood
that does not provide the slightest hint of the tumultuous happenings to come in Luna’s
personal life.

Philippines. It is which two kneeling people rhythmically clap together long bamboo poles while
two dancers perform steps around, between and over the bamboo. The dance steps are said to
mimic the graceful movements of the Tinikling bird.

10. OLD SPANISH CHURCH made by an Artist named Fernando Cueto Amorsolo. The art of
the area that is today known as Spain reflects the differences between the cultures and
religions of Al-Andalus and the Christian kingdoms to the North. The former was generally

SOCIAL THEORIES

Social Theories are analytical frameworks, or paradigms, that are used to study and interpret
social phenomena. Sociological theories are the core and underlying strength of the discipline.
It provides with a basic understanding of how to see the larger social picture in your own
personal life. Theories are sets of interrelated concepts and ideas that have been scientifically
tested and combined to magnify, enlarge, clarify, and expand our understanding of people,
their behaviours, and their societies. A social theory is a comprehensive introduction to
sociological studies of the arts. It examines the central debates of social theorists and
sociologists about the place of the arts in society and the social significance of aesthetics. It
also discusses the meaning of the arts in relation to changing cultural institutions and socio-
economic structures. Traditionally, we have believed that art imitates life. For example, the
painter that represents what he or she sees by producing scene on a canvas. The sculptor does
the same with bronze or stone. A photographer or film maker does it even more directly. A
writer describes life in his or her books. This concept is actually know as mimesis. These are
some of the examples of the life of theories. It focuses the covers of a wide range of theoretical
and historical aspects of sociology. The theories of actions, social practice, post-structural
sociology, socio- theoretical implications of pragmatism, dialogue, current developments in
cognitive sciences, culture and emotions.
