1. What is literature in a narrow and broad senses?


Answer : According to Rees (1973) there are two definitions of literature (literature);
literature in the broad sense (literature in the broad sense) and literature in the narrow
sense.
Literature in a broad sense is all forms of writing such as schedules, catalogs, text books,
travel brochures, etc.
Literature in the narrow sense is any writing that expresses ideas, emotions, feelings, and
behaviors in life.

2. Mention and define the types of literary works!


Answer : Types of Literature
1. Poetry / Verse
Poetry is a literary work that is bound by stanzas and arrays, the words are short but rich in
meaning, the words are not pulgar but wrapped in a style of language, whether clichéd or
not. But in modern poetry it is not bound by the number of stanzas or the number of lines in
one stanza, even the words are shorter and wrapped.

2. Pantun
Pantun is actually an old poem originating from the Malay Sumatra region, the pantun is
bound by lines and rhymes on each line, with the formula abab. The first and second lines
represent sampiran, while the third and fourth lines are content.

3. Romance
Is a fictional story that tells the story of the life of a human child from childhood to death, or
from infancy to adulthood. Romance is an old literary work.

4. Novel
A novel is a literary work in the form of a fictional story that tells the life of someone who is
considered memorable. Novels include modern literary works.

5. Short stories
Short story stands for short story, as the name implies short stories usually consist of 2 - 5
sheets of polio paper or F4 size. The short story only tells the most memorable events that
happened to the main story character.
But short stories generally have shorter stories than novels.
6. Fairy tales
Fairy tales are old stories that are usually unknown to the author, aka anonymous, told only
by word of mouth.

7. Legend
The actual legend is almost the same as the fairy tale, it is not known who the author is. But
legends tell the origin of a place or stories about ancient kingdoms.

8. Drama Script
A drama script is a complete story with scenes and dialogues from the characters. Drama
script is to be performed in the art of performing drama in a building or on a stage.

4. Who, when, where, why and how (to) learn literature?


Answer : In my opinion anyone can study literature whenever and wherever someone likes.
Because learning literature can develop our imagination and creativity in thinking, increase
our insight and knowledge in writing a literary work. To learn literature we have to read a lot
of books literature, looking for more information about literary works.
