ASSIGNMENT BROCHURE FOR ALL ENGLISH LEVELS-SECOND SEMESTER 2020

INSTRUCTIONS: From the assignments hereunder, pick a question according to your level and
ensure you do as demands the question. You will write between 5 and 7 pages including
reference and cover page. Research your work and avoid reproducing works from internet. You
will not provide headings/subheadings in your assignment as your work will take a narrative
form that automatically bears all the relevant expected parts of work. Due Date: 16/10/2020,
14hrs. The weighting is 10 Marks. The Test will be 20 marks while the other 10 marks will
be obtained from your tutorial presentations, participation and lecture attendance.

ENG 211-LEVEL 3 ‘B’: GRAMMAR OF ENGLISH-PHONOLOGY

ASSIGNMENT ONE: With close reference to paradigmatic and syntagmatic relations and also
intersegmental and intrasegmental analysis, describe the process of phonemic analysis under
segmental phonology.

ASSIGNMENT ONE: Discuss the case of suffixal homophones in Morphological word


formation processes.

ENG 311-LEVEL 5: ANGLO-PHONE AFRICAN PROSE FICTION

ASSIGNMENT ONE: With concrete reference to the primary texts in the course, elucidate and
demonstrate how setting in both Meja Mwang’s Kill Me Quicki and Shimer Chinodya’s Harvest
of Thorns form situation irony in the texts.

ENG 411-LEVEL 6: GRAMMAR OF ENGLISH-SYNTAX

English language offers several ways and rules of sentence constructions. With examples,
explain the rule of passivization, pronominalization and reflexilization and state how the
selection of each takes linguistic effect on both the decoder and the encoder.
