Meeting Market Needs
Leak compensation is available in
pressure-based ventilation modes.
Leak compensation is used with non-
invasive ventilation with a vented
mask & single-limb patient circuit
with a proximal pressure line but no
exhalation valve.
Vented masks typically have a
known leak-rate associated with
them. The leak from the mask is
estimated at the end of exhalation
and this leak is taken into account in
the patient’s inspired volume
measurements.
Meeting Market Needs
The PB560 can check the configuration of the patient circuit and
high priority alarms will sound when the ventilator settings are
incompatible with the circuit used. Some examples:
1. inspiratory pressure greater than 30 without an exhalation valve in
the patient circuit
2. expiratory pressure less than 4 without an exhalation valve in the
patient circuit
3. using CPAP mode with an exhalation valve in the patient circuit
4. using volume ventilation without an exhalation valve in the patient
circuit
5. inspiratory or expiratory pressure difference less than 5 without a
valve in the patient circuit
The ventilator immediately detects when the circuit has been
changed. Additionally, alarms will sound if a mode change is
made that violates any of the aforementioned conditions.
No Emergency Transport
It is expected that the
Puritan Bennett 560
Portable Ventilator will be
used by patients during
transport by wheelchair or
motor vehicle, but it IS
NOT intended to be an
"emergency transport
ventilator" in the context
of ISO 10651-3.
