Paper 3
WEDNESDAY, 8th August 2018 (Morning)
3 hours 15 minutes
INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES:
This paper consists of THREE questions. Answer all the questions.
Write the answers in the spaces provided. Additional sheets of paper MUST
NOT be inserted in this booklet..
You are NOT allowed to start working within the first 15 minutes. You are
advised to use this time to read through the question paper and ensure that
you have all the apparatus, chemicals and specimens you may require.
TOTAL
Question 1:
You are provided with a freshly killed animal labelled specimen B.
(a) (i) Open the buccal cavity widely while the specimen is lying on its
dorsal surface and facing towards you. Expose the structures that
facilitate digestion, draw and label. (02 marks)
(ii) Describe the position and attachment of the tongue. (02 marks)

(b) (i) Stretch out the left hind limb without altering the position of the
specimen. Stretch the digits to clearly display the foot and its modified
structures. Draw and label the structures displayed. (05 marks)

(c) Place the specimen on a dissecting board while facing away from you and
dissect it to display the structures lying posterior to the liver lobes within the
abdominal cavity. Display the intestines to the left of the specimen. Draw
and label to exclude the vessels. (22 marks)
Question 2:
You are provided with specimen L and solutions X and Y of different
concentrations. Remove the outer dry leaves from specimen L. Peel off two thin
transparent membranes from a fleshy inner leaf.
(i) Place the first thin membrane in two drops of solution X on a glass slide.
Carefully add a cover-slid and wait for 15 minutes. After the 15 minutes,
observe the cells under medium power of a microscope.
(ii) Repeat the procedure in (i) above on the second thin membrane using two
drops of solution Y.
(a) Draw and label one representative cell seen from each of the procedures (i)
and (ii) above.
(b) (i) Outline two structural differences between the cells observed in
procedures (i) and (ii) above. (02 marks)

(c) Place the thin membrane used in procedure (i) in two drops of solution Y on
a glass slide and carefully add a cover slip. Examine the cells at medium
power of a microscope for a period of 15 minutes broken down as shown in
the table below.
(i) At the end of each interval, record your structural observations of the
cells seen and deductions in table 3 below. (08 marks)
