AUTOMATIC NURSE ASSISTANT ROBOT

INTRODUCTION
We want to give our idea of building an Automatic Nurse Assistant Robot (ANAR), which will
help the medical staffs and nurses to take care of Covid-19 patients.
As the name suggest ANAR can do various type of task allotted to nurse, ANAR going to be
carrier robot, which will carry food and medical supplies along with carrying out waste and
also it will carry some important information (OXYGEN LEVEL, PULSE, ECG) from doctor
to patients and from patients to doctor.
The ANAR will come with some advance sensor oximeter sensor, ECG sensor, Infrared sensor
with LCD display. IOT technology will be used to store and retrieve data from things using the
HTTP and MQTT protocol over the internet or via local area.

ANAR are designed to be able to carry out repetitive and monotonous task , so human staff
have more energy to deal with issues that require human decision – making skills creativity
and most of all care and empathy Initially the family of the patient or the doctor of the patient
could not access the current situation of the patient, but now using technology like IOT it is
possible for the doctor and the members of the family to access and monitor the current status
of the patient. It helps both doctor and patient family significantly.
“It is not possible for the medical staff to monitor every patient 24*7. So, we needed some
technology which could tackle the lack of flow of information between family and the
doctor. Due to lack of medical staff it is not possible for them to be present at every
instant of time for the monitoring of the patient.”
Due to covid-19 situation and observing the condition of medical staff and patient’s family
situation it motivated us do something for them. The hospital is aspiring to accelerate
services to patients and to reduce the burden of doctors and nurses by reducing the number
of mistakes. The main purpose of this study is to develop an Automatic Nurse Assistant
Robot (ANAR) system that acts as a diagnostic device that is programmable with a multi-
function manipulator designed to help doctors and help patients recovering better.
As technology continues to advance and becomes competitively cheaper and more accessible,
its applications are increasingly benefiting human workers in the healthcare industry.

LITERATURE SURVEY

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the number of jobs for nurses will
grow 15% from 2020 to 2026, which is much faster than other jobs. The current shortage has left
the hospitals in a crunch. In such a COVID situation there has been a further increase in jobs of
nurses all across the globe. Texas has switched to an unusual solution to this problem through a
robot named-Moxi.

Nursing care is facing an unprecedented crisis in terms of lack of skilled health care
workforces. So, in nutshell these facts and reports motivated us for a project like this. During
this pandemic our country’s healthcare structure has suffered a major setback. To overcome
these problems, we should switch from manual- labor to robotics. Like other advance
countries India should also switch to automation in medical domain. Our project will be
structured keeping these current situational problems of our society.

In this COVID situation we have seen that our medical staff was not able to serve 24*7, In
some areas. Projects like ours will help our medical staff and moreover patients will also be
benefitted by this because they will get timely medical services which will be also backed by
an efficient medical staff.
METHODOLOGY/ PLANNING OF WORK

We are designing this project only for general ward. we are excluding ICU and Emergency
ward. We are looking forward to design a special general ward in which we can implement this
technology. The motion of the robot will help providing food and medicine to the patient. It
will also monitor the patient oxygen level, pulse rate and heart rhythm (using ECG). The
current monitored data will be collected and transfer through the think speaks to various
concerned authorities. If patient is in critical condition, it will alert the concerned authorities
about the critical condition of the patient. The system will be implemented using Arduino Uno
that enables us to use multiple sensors for the reading pins.

SCHEMATICS

Fig: Representing the schematic of the project

First of all, we have to make Communication between Arduino and android app using Bluetooth,
Thing speak or IFTTT.

now after establishing the communication successfully start using Thing speak after this send
some data to Arduino data from sensors and transfer that data to Arduino using Thing speak and
android receive that data.
CONTRIBUTION/SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

With the help of our project we are boosting the confidence of health worker and try to
maintain social distancing between the patient and the medical staff.
It will also develop transparency between hospital and patient’s family.
Without the physical presence of medical staff, we can monitor the patient health continuously
on server. We also reduce the workload, mental stress of the health worker.
The ultimate question for robotics in healthcare is whether they will take jobs away from
humans. There are several reasons why the machines will not replace their human counterparts.
For one thing, most hospitals have less than 300 beds. They simply cannot afford the technology.
The automated guided vehicles require a dedicated hall or floor tracks and the installation of
navigation devices throughout the facilities. Other carts work with the help of a laser-drawn map
of the hospital programmed into them that includes elevators, turns and automated doors. That
process is also extremely expensive. But ultimately, robotic assistants cannot replace basic
human contact.

Even though the technology is expensive and some of it is years from being implemented, the use
of robots is changing healthcare and—in ways we can only imagine— will continue to do so.
