1. Brief description of the organisation

Golchha Organization is one of the biggest and most esteemed business houses
in Nepal. . It is a multifaceted business house and some of its businesses rank to
be the oldest in the country - manufacturers of the most reputed brands. It is a
management and investment complex dedicated to the industrial, commercial
and philanthropic sectors. It was far back as 1934 that the founder of Golchha
organisation Shree Ram Lal ji Golchha displayed extraordinary enthusiasm by
opening the doors of the country to industrialization.
The Organization’s interests in terms of management and investment are in
numerous companies like Jute, Steel, Electronics, Metal, Food Grains and many
more. Apart from industrial establishments, our interests spread into
international trade and service sector. Over the last seven decades, its industrial
activities have grown across diversified fields and has established as one of the
largest business house in the country. It has been a pioneer in utilizing latest
technologies in its processes and introducing new products, with products
ranging from rolled steel item to food grains to television.
Golchha Organisation has been ambitious in the field of trade and services, be
in the domestic markets or in the international arena. It had pioneered jute
export as early as the nineteen fifties. Since then, its trading activities have
matured and achieved phenomenal growth. Many of its trading firms are
engaged in trading extensive range of products from export of lentils to import
of vehicles, banking & finance, insurance, transportation etc.

2. Brief introduction of the company

 Him Electronics Pvt. Ltd., established in 1988, is member of Golchha


Organization.
 Him, which means snow in Sanskrit and is synonymous with the
Himalayas - the abode of snow.
 Like its name, Him Electronics inspire to abide the meaning of snow and
the Himalayas - that is pure, standing high and chain signifying collective
strength.
 With these ideal as a guiding force, it has maintained a high degree of
professionalism and transparency in all its dealing and relationships.
 As the range of Himalayas are bound with each other so strong, in the
same way we are bound & working with our suppliers, dealers &
distributors along with our employees for decades marking the constant
mutual growth.
 Over the years it has been in the market as a trusted name amongst its
consumers, and it continues to provide end to end service, i.e from
manufacturing to after sales service, to consumers in Nepal.
 It has a modern manufacturing unit which currently produces television
and heaters.

2.1 Divisions:

Him electronics operates with 6 business divisions;


 Samsung division
 Retail: him electronics retail stores also known as Samsung plaza sells the
various product range of famous Samsung brand. It currently operates in
14 different location of the country; Durbarmarg, Maharajgunj, civil mall
Sundhara, Suryabinayak, new Baneshwor, KL tower Chabahil, Kupondle,
Nepalgunj, Dhangadi, Kumaripati,Narayangadh, Birtamode, Nayabazar
and Pokhara.
 Electrical
 Appliances
 Watches and alternative energy
Him electronics distributes Timex watches, an iconic American heritage
watch brand in Nepal. Similarly it also interests in distributing sustainable
and renewable solar energy products. Himstar topray solar panels,Himstar
solar inverter and solar accessories are what they have been providing in
Nepalese market.

2.2 The after sales service division:

 Popularly known as him service, it is spread across Nepal and operates


from 28 locations with complete system and technology installed to
manage and effectively monitor the constantly expanding network of him
service centers.
 Customer needs are always of top priority and hence him electronics have
always nurtured and maintained selfless service over the years.
 For him electronics, well co-ordinated distribution is one of the keys of
maintaining the leadership position. Hence, to make products available
across its retail counters most effectively, they have more than 10000 sq
mtrs of warehouse space spread across 4 location of the country.

3. Background of the internship

‘’Internship is a period of work experience offered by an organisation for a


limited period of time. They are typically undertaken by students and graduated
looking to gain relevant skills and experience in a particular field.’’- Wikipedia.

4. Goals and objectives of internship

My internship program was conducted as a partial fulfilment of Bachelors of


Business Administration course under Kathmandu University. My individual
objectives of this internship program are:
 To gain practical and professional experience in working processes of
various departments of a reputed business house.
 To be able to develop all the personal and professional skills required in
the workplace.
 To be able to relate the text book knowledge with the practical experience
gained in the workplace.
 To understand the importance of the departments working together for the
accomplishment of organisation’s ultimate goal.

I perceived this internship program as a great opportunity to polish and prepare


myself to enter into job environment after my graduation. My primary goal of
the internship program was to apply theoretical knowledge in the real world
situations and develop all other necessary skills to perform my job responsibly.
To achieve my goals and objectives of the internship program, I dedicated my 8
weeks and full time working hours i.e. from 10am to 5pm in learning new
concepts and ideas from my mentors.
I choose Him electronics Pvt. Ltd. as it falls under the umbrella of Golchha
organisation, a renowned corporate house in Nepal and to fulfil my internship
goals and objectives.

5. Internship activities (Roles/Jobs performed)

During internship program, I got to work in various departments and perform


various roles/jobs that were assigned to me. I particularly worked much for
Sales and human resource department. A brief description on the jobs
performed by me in all these department are as follows:

5.1 Human resource department.

 Update employees profile in Neo HRIS software.


 Call and inform prospective candidates for interview with HR head.
 Update the daily attendance of employees.
 Print and distribute lunch and fuel coupons to the employees.
 Maintain and update the record files of the employees.
 Learn about periodic performance appraisals of employees.
 Assist my mentor in drafting probation and temporary employment
agreement letters.

5.2 Sales department

 Visit company’s sales outlet i.e. switch on in Naxal to know about the
product ranges, the and prices and specifications and sales procedures.
 Keep track of daily sales record.
 Learned about setting and evaluating periodic sales target.

6. Reflection of internship

The internship period of 8 weeks went by so fast and smoothly. I enjoyed every
part of it to the fullest. My supervisors and mentors were very friendly and
assisted in every way possible. I wasn’t denied to get access to resources that
could enhance my knowledge and well-being. My objectives and goals were all
fulfilled in fact, I got to learn and achieve more than the objective I had set.
Things like personal grooming, relationship building, interactions with
colleagues, and behavioural aspects in workplace, networking, need for soft
skills were the added knowledge I was able to gain there. Furthermore, I also
learnt that workplaces are not just for rigorous working but also a place for
building relationships, helping each other in performing tasks ad celebrating
events like birthdays or festivals together.
I could have benefitted with the learning from other departments like finance,
marketing and accounting as well but the time period of internship was pretty
short and limited. Hence, I bothered not to step into every department and learn
a little of each department but focus on few departments and learned in depth
about the working processes of these departments.
Overall, I got a very good exposure at Golchha organisation. Golchha
organisation indeed is a reputed business house with strong organisational
structure, excellent working environment and well trained and motivated
employees.
