Keely Jenkin TPA Task 1: Self-Reflection ID: 2150783

An area of challenge I would like to ensure I improve upon is finding my voice as an educator and
being confident in my management and instruction of the class. While I can confidently plan for
lessons and I know the content and how to teach it when doing so, I am naturally a quiet person, so it
requires more of an active effort for me to have the confidence and “teacher voice” when leading an
activity or lesson. Over my Professional Experiences I have improved with this, however, I am hoping
that during this final placement I will be able to make the greatest improvement and additionally
position myself an a teacher the children know they need to respect and listen to as they do with their
usual teacher and not being seen as solely a “friend” to the children. Connecting to the Australian
Professional Standards for Teachers, this relates most closely to Standards 3.3, 3.5, 4.2, and 4.3 and
while I have not had any issues with meeting these standards previously, I can further support my
ability to achieve this goal by ensuring I am addressing these standards.

Looking at the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, another area of challenge I know I
have is addressing Standard 5: Assess, provide feedback, and report on student learning. While I was
able to meet the emerging level for Standards 5.2, 5.4, and 5.5 during my third year Professional
Experience, I know I am not strong at creating and incorporating a variety of assessments into my
teaching, particularly summative assessments of learning. While I am easily able to utilise and assess
through informal assessment—observations, reflections, etc.— I want to ensure that I use concrete
forms of assessment during my final year of Professional Experience. For this final placement in my
Year 2/3 class, I intend to plan for and actively incorporate forms of both formative and summative
assessment into my lesson sequences. I hope to do this through group activities, examples of
children’s written work, and projects (especially as a part of my inquiry project). Additionally, for my
inquiry project, I would like to use a floor book throughout our learning as a way to document our
lessons as well as the children’s thinking and learning during these lessons. A floor book would also
provide a way to keep a reliable record of student’s growing understanding of the topic for
assessment as well as allow for input from parents, caregivers, and families and give them the
opportunity to view what we’ve been doing over an extended period of time. These forms of
assessment would allow me to assess children’s learning and address, in particular, Standards 5.1
and 5.5.
