10. Troubleshooting

Technique of Troubleshooting

• Make sure Network option is ON

• For MX150/250 -- can be set in user menu
• For MX200 – Must be set in factory mode

LonWork / Modbus GEZC Service School Slide 21 of 23

10. Troubleshooting
Technique of Troubleshooting

• Make sure cable is less than 3000ft

Otherwise add repeater.

• Perform local communication

1 master – to – 1 slave device

• Perform global communication

a. Configuration via 50P-1111
b. EnerVista:
b.1 – Setup
b.2 – Plug-n-play

• Have spare (good) devices

(I.e. Converter, Modbus card)

LonWork / Modbus GEZC Service School Slide 22 of 23

11. Q&A
• Terminating Resistor – For noise cancellation

• Noise issue due to EMI effect (I.e. Motor drive)

• Typically chassis ground one (master) end of shield but not both.
(use Belden shielded pair)

• Network length –
• up to 3000 feet
• More than 3000 feet will need a repeater

• Need to understand the register map

• Modbus’ connection is polarity specific

• LonWork’s connection is non-polarity specific

• Conversion of Half-to-full duplex or vice versa: Use 50W-1225
