SEASONALITY OF VEGETABLE CULTIVATION IN KHAS-HASA, HASA

VILLAGE:

PURPOSE

The main purpose of this study is to depict the main vegetables that they use to
cultivate in different season throughout the year. It helps in identifying the months
of great difficulties and vulnerability. The nature and type of participants depend
on theme chosen. The number of participants may vary from ten to fifteen. The
participants share their views, their opinions with us. I have done seasonality of
vegetable cultivation in khas-hasa, where I ask about the main vegetables they
grow and hoe these vegetables benefits them.

Approach:
PRA i.e. Participatory Rural Appraisal is one of the most important part
of this forty days camp. It includes different exercises; seasonality is one
of them that require mobilization of participants and getting information
from them. Mobilizing people I not an easy task but my group had
already done rapport building in our previous camp so it actually helped
us in this camp while doing mobilizing the participants. We ask to sit in
an open place like under the tree, etc. where we started the exercise we
asked them how they are. How’s their life going on? Are they facing any
kind of problem because of lack of rain and less cropping. They were
answering of all these questions and started taking interest, then about
the vegetable cultivation like in which season they grow more crops.
How they are getting benefitted from those vegetable cultivation. This
activity requires patience that while doing the activity you don’t need to
lose your patience and do your work with calmness.
Facts and Findings:

 Facts that came to known are:

There are total three members in our group – Arun, Priyanka and
Shefali. Before doing this exercise we got all the information
regarding the exercise that how we have to conduct. We also know
about the area that we have to cover during this exercise. We have
done this in Khas-hasa tola where our participants are more than
four in numbers.

 Findings:
We came to know various things about the vegetable cultivation in
the village like:
1. We listed different vegetables according to them.
2. In which season they grow which vegetable most.
3. What are the issues regarding to grow the different
vegetables?
4. Are the vegetable only for self-consumption or they can sell
it to the market
5. Which vegetables provide them less profit?
6. In cultivating which vegetable they suffer major loss?
7. In which season vegetables cultivation is done for self-
consumption?
Finding about the vegetables cultivation was one of the most
interesting one. We got to know about the different types of
vegetables that grow in different seasons.
Difficulties:
One of the difficulties we faced was mobilizing people and you never
know how they may react on several questions because they may have
different perspective related to that question or some of them may have
absent mind so they may react in a negative sense.
Difficulties faced:
 Mobilizing the people because some of them may around the
field.
 Gathering them at one place.
 Asking questions related to vegetables like how much profit they
can earn?
 Working as a facilitator and conducting the whole exercise was a
difficult task
 Making cooperation and coordination among the members was
tough one.
 Not to ask frequently question was somehow difficult for us.
