DRUGS
A chemical or other substance that is illegally used,
sometimes to improve performance in an activity or
because a person cannot stop using it
ALCOHOL
A liquid that is produced in
making wine, beer, and liquor and that
can cause changes in behavior in people 
who drink it
AMPHETAMINE
A strong drug used as
a medicine that makes
the mind and body more active;
a stimulant.
The man-made, synthetic drug is made
from amphetamine-like chemicals and causes a
unique combination of effects on the brain.
CAFFEINE
A
chemical, found for example in tea and coff
ee, that is a stimulant (= something that
makes people more active)
COCAINE
A drug used
in medicine to prevent pain and
also used illegally.

Often in the form of a white powder that


is breathed in through the nose
CRACK COCAINE

A powerful form of the drug cocaine.
HASHISH
A drug, made from
the cannabis plant and
usually smoked.

Ilegal in many countries.


HEROIN
A powerful illegal drug.

Heroin is obtained from morphine and
is extremely addictive.
LSD
An illegal drug that causes people 
who use it
to see the world differently from
the way it really is.

Or to see things that do not really exist.


MARIJUANA
A drug, illegal in many countries, that is
made from the dried leaves and flowers of
the hemp plant.
Marijuana produces a pleasant feeling of
being relaxed if smoked or eaten.
MDMA
A powerful drug that makes
you feel very active and
can cause you to hallucinate.

METHAMPHETAMINE
A drug that
makes your mind and body more active. It
is addictive (= you cannot stop taking it
when you have started) and
some people take it illegally.
MAGIC MUSHROOMS
Psilocybin or magic mushrooms
are naturally occurring and are
consumed for their hallucinogenic
effects. They belong to a group of
drugs known as psychedelics,
because of the changes
experienced to perception, mood
and thought.

The key ingredient found in magic mushrooms


is psilocybin. When psilocybin is taken, it is
converted in the body to psilocin, which is the
chemical with the psychoactive properties.
PCP
PCP, or phencyclidine, is a dangerous drug that was
initially developed as an anesthetic.
PCP affects memory and the ability to process
emotions and learn. It can also make consumers feel
disconnected from their bodies and what surrounds
them. It can also distort visual, sonic, and reality
perceptions; it is a drug known to confer a false
sense of strength, power, and invincibility on the
consumer.
