5. When concrete is delivered in truck mixers, additional water may be added to the batch and
additional mixing performed to increase the slump to meet the specified requirement if
permitted by the Engineer, provided all these operation are performed within 45 minutes after
the initial mixing operation and the water and cement ratio is not exceeded.

of 60 to 80 degrees centigrade until the time of test.
7. Vibrators shall operate at a frequency of 8,300 to 9,600 impulses per minute under load at a
maximum spacing of 60 cm and at 15 seconds at any given point.
8. A concrete core sample having a maximum height of less than 95 % of its diameter before
capping or height less than its diameter after capping shall not be tested.
9. In concrete acceptance, cores will be considered adequate if the average strength of the cores
is equal to what? _85__% of the specified strength and no single core is less than _7 5_% of the
specified strength.
10. Before cement is to be used, sampling must be done at least __12__ days before use.
11. Between stages of curing, concrete shall not be exposed for more than how many hours?__1/2_
hour.
12. As a materials Engr what will you do with major honeycombed area that consider as defective
work. Removed and replaced at the expense of the contractor.
13. After concrete has been placed, it is advisable to maintain fully wetted and in position for how
many hours? __72___ hours.

17. Retarder can delay the setting time of concrete up to __24___hours only.
18. Superplasticizer can increase the strength in 24 hours by how many %__1%___.
19. The completed pavement shall be accepted on a lot basis. A lot shall be considered as _400____
linear meters double lane. Each lot shall be divided into __5__ equal segments and one core
will be obtained from each segment in accordance with AASHTO T24.
20. The penetration of concrete joint sealer, Hot Poured Elastic Type shall not exceed ___5mm_.
21. If no core is taken at the end of the day’s operation, and the project is completed, a core shall
be taken for every ___500____ meters/2 lane.

__150___ degrees centigrade.

Item 104 –Embankment

1. Proper compaction of the fill materials is very important as it will a) increase the shear strength,
b) decrease permeability, c) minimize compressibility, d) all of the above
2. _ shear strength of Soil- one of the most important engineering properties of soil. Defined as its
ability to resist sliding a long internal surfaces within mass.
