The best of both worlds.

It has been known for a while that the majority of the world has seen an increase in activity in the
past few years. This has created an opportunity to lay down the rules for making life more interesting
for the rest of us. How many times have we dreamed to be better at what we excel at or at what we
like to do? The notion of being a true person with an aura about the validity of our assertions make
the world a more critical place. We have seen throughout the course of history that the world can be
crazy at times. The important thing is to stay true to your own beliefs and provide an answer to the
rest of the population on what we are looking for today. When hard pressed to present a true
meaning to our life, we shy away from the easy stuff, then moving on to the things that are not clear
in our minds.

It is sometimes strange that people like to talk things that they do not understand or about things
that they have seen far away in a past life. It is about providing a quietness in the attitude and in the
way for the world leaves for us. What for instance history teaches us is that nobody is above the law
and nobody can take its life for granted. The world is such a messed up place that it will take years to
make anything happen the right way. I remember as a child waking up in the early hours of the
morning, taking cold showers and getting ready to go to school. I will tell myself this mantra “yes, I
will be successful and live my own life”. I would then take the road and walk one mile on a dusty road
until I reached the bus station. Sometimes, after it had rained, the road will be so muddy that I could
barely walk all the way to the station. In the end, I knew I had a higher purpose in life in that my
whole life will be destined for greatness away from poverty and all its flaws. It stems from a bit of
arrogance and self belief but it also brought that sense of purpose clearly on my mind that I can be
somebody.

My life has always been hard, living in a place where life and the rest of my family have always been
hard pressed to find food on the table. I always heard these old stories of how my grandfather had
more than a dozen children with two different wives and managed to send every single one of them
to school even though he did not have that much money. The main thing for him was about the
meaning of education to lift his children out of poverty so they could make out a decent living. He
had one pair of shoes and one bicycle most of his life but he managed to put in his children minds the
notion of truth and sacrifice. That one is better off working for the common good, rather than for
himself. Some of these things have permeated through the family like a veil than gives the people a
clear understanding of what they stand for and where they go.

Writing about oneself is always self delusional. One put a lot of emphasis on small things that may
have been important at a time but taken in the broader scheme of things, do not add that much. It is
about finding a purpose to the rest of one’s life after spending so much of one’s life just trying to
forget the essence of who we were and where we are coming from. It always strikes me when I hear
young people taking things for granted and not bothering understanding the sacrifice their
forefathers made so they could indulge in their new lives. Once you look deep into it, you realise that
although people come from all sort of walk of lives and have different experiences, we are all humans
after all. We love our friends and families unconditionally even when they have hurt us, we suffer
pains and sorrows. It is not easy to define what is clear in how minds, being free and happy or
believing the notion that we are born free but that we sometimes have to relinquish our freedoms.
The disparity between being a normal person, full of hopes and dreams and those that want to
redefine they own way of life is disparate. All the time when I have talked to people from all
backgrounds, I have always been struck by the resemblance in our ways of thinking and the things
that can be achieved. The world as we know it throws at us different things that remind us of that we
are not immortal, that we will not live forever and that we need to carve out our own destiny. It does
not matter where we come or what are dreams are made of, it about making the most of it and
taking our chances. Somehow, when I look back at my life and at what I have achieved so far, I
usually feel empty.

It is the most by seeing and doing that we get better and increase the perception of the world around
us. The way the world has been shaped has enabled a fairer share of knowledge being spread out all
around the world. Unfortunately, Africa is still lagging behind in so many ways: science, education,
culture, engineering, construction, innovation, health, digital economy, finance and public services. It
is the way we have been accustomed to function as a person without knowledge who does not
question the foundations of the world around us. Can we make a difference and discuss the
incidence of these actions to the rest of the world? Can I say what I want to say without fear of the
unknown and the reasons behind our main ideas? Can we spare a thought for what has been the
most depressing way of discussing the evolution of knowledge and the ways our minds will dictate
the outcomes of our lives in the future? Can we spare a thought for the people that have changed
the way lives and people behave in this small world of ours? Since the advent of technology, I have
not seen a person or an organisation making the difference the way it should have been done and
through the way things have been regulated in the past. Is it how we define ourselves and the rest of
the human knowledge? It is here that we need to increase the awareness of the world to what really
matters in essence, life.
