GENERAL QASSEM SOLEIMANI
A crisis between US and Iran

As one of the headlines for the year 2020, the US & Iran
conflict started to boom out and gave a shock to other countries
as well. Last January 3, Friday, the Iranian General Qassem was
allegedly assassinated by a drone owned by the US. In order to
defend their side, US President Donald Trump said that
Soleimani has already planned an am a counter-attack. As a
result, Iran sent back their mourns and grieves to the airbases of
US Troops in Iraq by means of firing 20 Ballistic Missiles.
Fortunately, there were no casualties reported after that attack.
 
          On January 7, Tuesday, the Iranian citizens were sending
Soleimani to his grave when a stampede suddenly occurred and
succeeded to kill 50 people and caused some injuries to 200
more. Mass rallies against the United States were also
conducted by several Iranian citizens due to Soleimani's
assassination. Meanwhile, the US President stated his will to stop
the arising conflict instead of bringing it up to its extent.
President Trump said that Iran should stop its continuous acts
against the US for he believes that the US will surely succeed in
winning against Iran because of its advantages in terms of
military force and equipment. He also said that if the conflict will
still perdure, the US will not hesitate to fight back in order to
protect their country and its people.

Meanwhile, the US President stated his will to stop the arising

because of its advantages in terms of military force and equipment.
He also said that if the conflict will still perdure, the US will not
hesitate to fight back in order to protect their country and its people.
On the other hand, the said war might also cause some indirect
effects to the Philippines as we are known to be an oil importer from
other countries including the United States and Iran. If the war
continues, price hikes would transpire and will surely affect the lives
of the Filipino people. According to Robert Dan Roces, an economist
at Security Bank, the war between the US and Iran will cause nothing
but harm to the Philippines as we have several Overseas Filipino
Workers in Iran that can be affected by the disunion of the two big
countries. The Philippine Embassy in Iraq has also foreseen the
possible outcomes of the arising war that's why they decided to
immediately send all the
Filipinos there back here to the Philippines.
However, the conflict remained due to the ambush that happened
against Ukrainian Airlines last January 8, Wednesday. The United
States believed that that was just an accident while Iraq firmly said
that their perspective was wrong. In anyways, all the attacks that
happened are strongly believed as a counteract of Iran to give honor
for their demise.

THE PHILIPPINE GOVERNMENT IMPOSED THE
IMPLEMENTATION OF TOTAL DEPLOYMENT BAN
Total Deployment ban is until Kuwait Honors Provision and Provide Better Protection for OFWs

On January 3, 2020, a partial deployment ban from Kuwait
had been placed. The Philippine government imposed a partial
deployment ban to Kuwait following the recent death of another
overseas Filipino worker (OFW) named Jeanelyn Villavende. The
said total deployment from the labor department’s call has been
approved by our President Rodrigo Duterte. President Duterte
wants the Philippines to stop sending its people to the Gulf
state, including skilled workers until Kuwait's honors that
everyone, the availability of a 2018 deal to provide better
protection for Filipino migrants workers there. Pres. Duterte’s
spokesman Salvador Panelo said; “It is for a complete ban until
the memorandum of agreement between the two countries is
fully implemented and thus the terms contained therein are
incorporated in every contract with our OFWs.” Panelo stated
that the Kuwaiti government “was attempting to hide” on what
happened to Jeanelyn Villavende’s death when it was reported
that she died, due to “trauma and bruises everywhere her body"
that is visible on her body.
The National Bureau of Investigation conducted an autopsy
of the said victim (Villavende) showing that she was totally
abused and tortured in her working stay in Kuwait. The result
provoked Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III to announce a
complete deployment ban earlier this week. According to the
news, the full deployment ban of workers to Kuwait will remain
in effect “until we get justice for Ms. Jeanelyn Villavende and a
consensus on the quality contract,” Labor Secretary Silvestre
Bello III said in a very press briefing on Thursday. “If we cannot
get that, there'll be no deployment. it's to be simultaneous,”
Bello added of the ban approved on Wednesday in Philippine
Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) resolution.

Earlier, DOLE said that Villavende had requested the assistance
of her recruitment agency for deportation. The recruitment agency
now faces its possibility to cancel its license for failing to act on
Villavende's please for help. Kuwaiti authorities had also detained
Villavende's employer. According to the Department of Foreign
Affairs, they summoned the Kuwaiti Ambassador in Manila following
Villavende’s death “to express the government’s outrage over the
seeming lack of protection” of Filipino domestic workers within the
geographical area country. It urged for “complete transparency” and
swift justice in investigating Villavende’s death and prosecuting
those accountable for her perpetrators “to the fullest extent of the
law.”

CORONAVIRUS CASE IN THE
PHILIPPINES
The Confirmation Regarding the
Presence of  Coronavirus Case

Early in the year 2020, we were surrounded by
many challenges. The current situation of the
world is the problem to emit viral disease which is
known as Coronavirus Disease. It was believed
that it camefrom Wuhan, China by a Chinese
nationalist. This disease already affected other
countries such as Korea, and Japan but not yet the
Philippines.
According to the news, there are still no
confirmed cases of Coronavirus in the Philippines.
However, they had received a concern from a
tourist that has symptoms of the new disease. The
patient is having some mild cough but nofever.
Upon investigation, the tourist came from Wuhan,
China and was expected to have vacationed here
in the Philippines. The Department of Health
officials responds immediately to the concern and
has yet to receive the blood samples sent to
Australia. The patient had been recovered after
admission.

Apart from that, the Chinese boy's family who arrived in Manila which came from Hong Kong, does
not show any symptoms of the viral infection. DOH representative Domingo said that there is no need to
do some testing on the family and be admitted as a process of isolation. It is because they are negative
from any symptoms. As of now, the flight attendant who volunteers to do self-quarantine also tested
negative of coronavirus.

Therefore until now, Philippines does not yet confirm any cases of the viral infection Coronavirus.
The advice they can give to us as of now is to continually keep in touch with the DOH and monitor
yourself. They wanted to remind everyone to maintain cleanliness, always wash your hands, and do not
touch your Mouth, Eyes, and Nose in short MEN in order to not let the virus enter your body. If the
World Organization declares global Health Emergency (WHO) it is better to order the place or city on
lockdown to avoid spreading more the virus. If this happened DOH assured that the system and
infrastructure are ready. The spread of this virus is serious, so be ready.

Severe Tropical Cyclone Harold shakens a small island nation

According to Joseph Zehnder of Britannica, a tropical cyclone which is also called
typhoon or hurricane is an intense circular storm that originates over warm tropical
oceans and is characterized by low atmospheric pressure, high winds, and heavy rain.
It can destroy many materials including a house’s roof or it can even shake a tall tree.
A tropical cyclone named Harold left some trails of massive destruction in the small
Islands of Suva, Fiji -- which is in the SolomonIslands and Vanuatu.

After leaving a trail of destruction last April 08, 2020, tropical cyclone Harold
weakened slightly overnight but, according to weather forecasters that it is still strong
enough to disturb the place of Fiji with winds of up to 240 kilometers per hour. The
National Disaster Management Office in that place said that it would be extremely
dangerous if the residents are not going to evacuate especially on those people who
are along or near the south coast which is believed to be home to many of the
country's major tourist resorts. The NDMO also advises that the residents' island's
south should seek shelter in places such as churches, schools, or other substantial
buildings.

NDMO ensure that they are practicing the social distancing since there is also a
