O/O CGMT ASSAM CIRCLE BSNL GUWAHATI

Press MEET/Release

Shri Sandeep Govil, Chief General Manager, BSNL Assam has intimated that the recent
media reports published in some Newspapers on 9 th and 10th October ‘19 and also
circulating through electronic/ social media platforms regarding recommendations of
Finance Ministry GOI for closure of BSNL is completely baseless and untrue. BSNL is a
100% GoI owned PSU and is having a robust network infrastructure. According to
reports available on TRAI website, BSNL’s market share is improving day by day. BSNL
is providing various services to different category of customers including strategically
important defence sector and there is no proposal of closure of BSNL Services and the
organization. It has been reiterated on a number of platforms as well as in the parliament
by our Hon’ble MOC, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad ji too.

UIDAI has recently designated BSNL Customer Service Centers as AADHAAR SEVA
KENDRA for Aadhaar enrollment services on pan India basis. BSNL Assam has
commenced Aadhaar enrollment services at a total of 36 Customer Service Centers.
The major centres are operating at including Guwahati, Barpeta, Bonagaigaon,

Udalguri. They are equipped with the facility of new Adhaar enrollment and
Adhaar card modifications. In Guwahati city, the Customer service centers at
Dispur, Fancy Bazar, Noonmati, Panbazar, Ulubari are now Aadhaar Seva
Kendras. So for Adhaar related services, public can visit these BSNL CSC/ Aadhaar
Seva Kendras for applying new Adhaar card and modification/correction in the existing
Aadhaar cards. Since these customer service centres are located in prime areas, so the
general public gets hugely benefitted due to this additional service being provided at
BSNL CSCs.

BSNL has also launched 4G services in Assam in some locations and going to launch in
other areas too in phased manner. We request our respected customers/public/media
persons not to pay attention to such rumors spread by vested interests. “BSNL’s will

It appears that the BSNL customers have by and large
ignored the fake news recently posted by a national news
agency resulting in widespread circulation through
electronic and print media thereafter.

This is amply borne by the fact that our IN revenue during

last 2 days, since the fake news broke out, is well above the
average per day IN revenue of last month and well above
the average of the first 8 days of Oct. ’19.

On the other hand, such negative news impacts rather

adversely each and everyone of us and our family members
also get tensed. It demoralizes us
