LOADS AND CONSTRAINTS (file: monitor_bracket_RBE.

hm)

Loads:
The weight of the screen (10 kg) is multiplied by an arbitrarily chosen “safety factor” of 4. Thus, the
total load is assumed to be 400 N. This load is applied at the center of the screen i.e. the independent
node of the RBE2 element (see section entitled: Attaching the TV screen).

The force needs to reside in a corresponding load collector (no Card Image needed):
Right click in the Model BrowserCreateLoad Collector. The
load collector is named ‘Force’.

In order to access the force panel, activate BC’sCreateForces

The magnitude of the force applied to the independent node of the RBE2 element is 400 N, acting in
negative z-direction. With the node collector option selected, select the node shown below:

Constraints:
Again, the constraints must be placed/stored in a separate load collector named ”constraints”:
Right mouse click in the Model BrowserCreateLoad Collector (no Card Image needed).
The bracket is mounted/fixed by 4 bolts, which are modeled by RBE2 elements, respectively.

20
This time, the independent node which is located at the origin of the hole is automatically generated
along with the RBE2 element.

The dependent nodes are the nodes of

: the hole

Eventually, the independent nodes of the RBE2 elements (representing the bolts) are fixed with
respect to all translational and rotational displacements:

Save the model as: monitor_bracket_loads.hm

Annotation: the independent nodes are constrained with respect to all degrees of freedom.
However, the dependent nodes (of the solid elements) do not “support” rotational displacements.
