Description and Objectives

Course Description

In this course, we would see how the following types of loads can be imposed on our SACS structural model using load feature:

 Pressure Loads

 Equipment Loads

 Appurtenant Structure Loads

 Environmental Loading: including wind, wave, current and dead load

Skills Taught

 Member Area Load (Pressure): Define loads on members inside a defined area

 Skid Load: Apply equipment loads on skids not necessarily directly on the beams

 Member Loads: Apply distributed and concentrated loads on the members

 Joint Load: Apply nodal loads

 Anode Load: Automatically apply loads corresponding to the anodes on the jacket legs

 Environmental Loading: Define parameters for wave, wind, current and dead/buoyancy load generation in Seastate program

 Load Combinations: Define load combinations

 Code Check Options: Define allowable stress modifiers, select loads to be analyzed and code check partitions list

Define Pressure Loads - Deck Dead and Live Loads
In SACS, area loads can be modeled using a pressure applied in the members within a defined area. The Member Area command is used to it. For
this exercise, we will define and apply the dead and live loads defined in the dataset to the model

1. Open sacinp.dat_06 using Precede

Go to Display > Views > Plan and select Plan: 15.300

Select Load > Pressure > Member Area and enter the following parameters to add cellar deck DEAD load condition:

 Load Condition: DEAD

 Load ID: CELLDL

 1st Joint (origin): 71BD

 2nd Joint (local X): 7104

 3rd Joint (local Y): 7110

 Tolerance: 0.5 m

 Members to Load: Along area local X

 Constant Pressure: - 0.5 kN/m²

Hint: Use the Joint Label button to display the joints names

Define Equipment Loads
In SACS, equipment load can be modeled using the Skid Load command and enter some parameters to describe the equipment and the load is
transferred to the structure. In this exercise, we will define and apply the equipment loads defined in the dataset to the model

1. Select Load > General > Skid Load and enter the following parameters to define SKID1 loads:

 Load Condition: EQPT

 Load ID: SKID1

 Out of plane tolerance: 0.5 m

 Skid beam length: 6.0 m

 Total skid Width: 3.0 m

 Number of Longitudinal Skid Beams: 2

 Center of Skid (X, Y, Z): 5.0 m, 2.0 m, 23.0 m

 Forces (X, Y, Z): 0, 0, -112.05kN

 Center of force is at geometric center of the skid: Unchecked

 Center of force (X, Y, Z): 5.0 m, 2.0 m, 26.0 m

Define Appurtenant Structure Loads - Miscellaneous Load on the Deck and Jacket
In SACS, appurtenant structure loads can be modeled along members, at joints, and at anodes using the Member, Joint or Anode commands. In
this exercise, we will define and apply the appurtenant loads defined in the dataset to the model

1. Select Load > Elements > Member to create walkway load on the deck, and hold control key to select members 71ED-702L, 702L-704L, 704L-
74ED, 81FD-82FD, 82FD-83FD and 83FD-84FD on the east side of the decks. Then, enter the following data:

 Load Condition: MISC

 Load ID (For add): WALKWAY

 Initial Load Value: -2.773 kN/m

 Final Load Value: -2.773 kN/m

Select Load > Elements > Member to create firewall load on the deck, and hold control key to select members 703L-74BD, 7102-7103 and
7106-7107. Then, enter the following data:

 Load Condition: MISC

 Load ID (For add): FIREWALL

 Load Category: Concentrated (Add)

 Concentrated Load: -15.0 kN/m

 Distance to concentrated load: 1.5 m

Select Load > Elements > Joint to create padeye load on the deck, and hold control key to select joints 501L, 502L, 503L and 504L. Then,
enter the following data:

 Load Condition: LPAD

 Load ID: PADEYE

 Force: -2.0 kN

 Include Buoyancy and Wave Load: Checked

Select Load > Elements > Members then pick all the members at EL 2.0 plan (except the well bay members) to define the walkway load at
boat landing elevation and enter the data as following:

To define the anode loads, we are going to display only the part of the jacket with the anode protection. Go to Display > Views > Volumes and
enter the following:

 Type of volume: Volumes to include.

 Z Coordinate

 Minimum: -79.500 m

 Maximum: -8.69 m

Hint: Select joint 101L to get the minimum Z-coordinate and select joint 301X to get the maximum Z-coordinate. Then click Apply.

Now we may want to exclude the wishbone, conductor, pile, and horizontal elements from the current view. Go to Display > Selections >
Group selection and enter the following:

 Member Group Selection

 Display Members: Checked

 Exclude: Enabled

 Selected Groups: PL1-PL5, W.B, CON, H13, H14, H22, H23, H24, H32 and H33

Select Load > Elements > Anode and drag a window to select all the members in the current view. Then, enter the data as follows:

 Load Condition: ANOD

 Anode ID: ANODE

 Anode Weight: 2.5 kN

 # Anodes per Member: 2

 Anodes are Equally Spaced: Checked

Environmental Parameters
In SACS, before applying the environmental loadings we need to define some parameters that are going to be used by the Seastate program to
automatically generate the loads itself.

1. To define drag and mass coefficients, select Environmental > Properties > Drag/Mass Coefficient and enter the following data:

 Diameter: 2.5 cm

 Cd: 0.6

 Cm: 1.2

 Diameter: 250 cm

 Cd: 0.6

 Cm: 1.2

 Use clean vales for fouled members: Checked

Save the file

Open the file using Datagen and verify if the mass and drag coefficient lines look like following:

To define marine growths, select Environment > Properties > Marine growth and enter the following data:

 Bottom: 0 / Top: 60 m

 Thickness: 2.5 cm

 Density: 1.4 cm

 Bottom: 60 m/ Top: 79.5 m

 Thickness: 5.0 cm

 Density: 1.4 cm

Open the file using Datagen and verify if the mass and drag coefficient lines look like following:

For hydrodynamic modeling, select Environment > Overrides > Member Group > Global and override the jacket leg members with group ID
LG1-LG3 that need to take into account the load increase due to the appurtenant structures like J-tubes and Risers.

In the Hydrodynamic Member Group Overrides window go to the Groups with no Overrides list, select groups LG1-LG3 that the overrides need
to be added to and enter the following parameters in the Coefficients tab:

 Normal drag coefficient in Y direction: 1.5

 Normal drag coefficient in X direction: 1.5

 Normal mass coefficient in Y direction: 1.5

 Normal mass coefficient in X direction: 1.5

Environmental Loading
We are going to consider three loadings directions (0°, 45° and 90°). For all of them we are going to define operating and extreme storm conditions.
In total, we are going to generate six load cases, three for each condition representing the different directions. The loading to be generated are:
P000, P045 and P090 (Operating Storm Condition) and S000, S045 and S090 (Extreme Storm Condition). All the loading parameters can be found
in the Loads Dataset.

1. To generate the wave, current, wind, dead/buoyancy loadings for Operating Storm Condition in direction 0° (P000), go to Environment >
Loading > Seastate and enter the following parameters:

 Loading Condition: P000

 Add: Enabled

 Wave box: Checked

 Wind box: Checked

 Current: Checked

 Dead Load: Checked

Note: After checking the boxes the Wave I, Wave II, Wind I, Wind II, Curr I, Curr II and Dead tabs will be enabled for editing.

Enter the following parameters on Wave I tab:

 Wave Height: 6.1 m

 Period box: Checked

 Period: 12 sec

 Wave direction: 0 deg

Enter the following parameters on Wave II tab:

 Definition units: Degrees

Defining Load Combination and Code Check Options
In this exercise, six load combinations OPR1, OPR2, OPR3, STM1, STM2 and STM3 will be added into the model. Three of them are
corresponding to operating storms and the other three are corresponding to extreme storms. Load factor of 1.1 will be used for environmental loads.
The live load will be included with a factor of 0.75 in extreme storm load combinations.

1. Select Load > Load Condition > Combine to define the Operation Storm load combinations by entering the following in the Load Combination
Data dialog box:

 Load Condition: OPR1 (Operation Storm Condition - 0 Degrees)

 Selected Load Conditions:

Data dialog box:

the Load Case Selection dialog box below

To specify allowable stress modification factors, go to Options > Code Check > Allowable Stress/Mat Factor and enter the data as shown in
the Allowable Stress Material Factor dialog box below.

To add report different lists of members within unity check ranges, go to Options > Code Check > Unity Check Ranges and enter the data as
shown in the image below.
