Switch Out Those Light Bulbs!
Please consider changing out your old light bulbs with Compact Florescent Lights (CFL). ENERGY STAR
qualified CFLs use 70 to 75 percent less energy than incandescent light bulbs and last 10 times longer. This
saves you money – as much as $34 over the life of each bulb!!

Nurse’s News
There have been some cases of influenza like illness in our school and community. The symptoms of influenza like illness may
include fever AND cough or sore throat. Some also have body aches, headache, chills, a tired feeling, runny nose, nasal congestion,
diarrhea, or vomiting. If your child experiences these symptoms, please keep him/her home away from other children until evaluation
by a provider or 24 hours without a fever (this includes not having taken fever reducing medicines in the past 24 hours). This is
regulated by the DHEC/CDC guidelines (School Exclusion List).

The flu virus can spread to others when a person who is ill with the virus coughs or sneezes. Others get the virus by breathing in
droplets in the air. People with the flu are thought to be able to spread the infection for about 7 days after becoming sick.

To reduce the spread of viruses at home, please ask all family members to:
ƒ Wash their hands frequently with soap and water
ƒ Cover their mouth and nose with a tissue when sneezing or coughing or cough into your sleeve
ƒ Clean surfaces that are touched frequently like door knobs
ƒ Get the flu vaccine…it is NOT too late!

If you have questions please contact our school nurse, Linda Miller, at 476-3906.

The Music Note

Congratulations to Aliyah Bowers, Emily Dale, and Trinity Davis for auditioning and being accepted to be
members of the 2011 Elementary All State Choir. They will be representing our school as they travel to Charleston
this weekend for many hours of rehearsal and a performance on Saturday morning. We are so proud of you!!
The DFES 5th Grade Chorus will be performing the National Anthem at the USC vs. Georgia men’s basketball
game on Saturday, February 12 at the Colonial Life Arena. This is an exciting opportunity for our students! Come
cheer for us!

Media Center Happenings

We had a very successful book swap with 91 students swapping over 400 gently used books. This is a great
way for students to get different books to read without spending any money! Next time we would like to have even
more students participate!
