Answer each of the following questions in one paragraph.
1. What does it mean and take to be a critical reader?
-Critical reading means that a reader applies certain processes, models, questions, and
theories that result in enhanced clarity and comprehension. There is more involved, both in
effort and understanding, in a critical reading than in a "skimming" of the text.
2. Why is critical reading considered an active process of discovery?
-It involves scrutinizing any information that you read or hear. Not easily believing
information offered to you by a text. Critical reading is an active process of
discovery because when you read critically you are not just receiving information but also
making an interaction with the writer.
3. Why is critical reading important? In what way is critical reading related to critical writing?
- Your writing will involve reflection on written texts: that is, critical reading. Your critical
reading of a text and thinking about a text enables you to use it to make your own
argument. You will be making judgments and interpretations of the ideas, arguments, and
claims of others presented in the texts you read.
4. What are the different ways to become a critical reader? Do you agree with them? Why or
why not?
- Read it more than once. A single read-through of an article is usually not enough to read
it critically. The different ways are take notes, discuss it with others, write a critical summary,
practice SQ3R.
5. What is a logical fallacy?
- Fallacies are common errors in reasoning that will undermine the logic of your
argument. Fallacies can be either illegitimate arguments or irrelevant points, and are often
identified because they lack evidence that supports their claim.

Jeremy's wife.
