BUBBLE BONANZA

QUESTION:

HYPOTHESIS:

MATERIALS:
 3 different brands of bubble solution
 straw
 metric ruler
 small cups

PROCEDURE:

1) Begin by making QUALITATIVE observations of the soap solutions, including descriptions

of the products in their packaged form. Record this information in DATA TABLE 1.
2) Selecting one of the dish soap solutions, pour a small amount (approximately 5 ml) onto
the lab table.
3) Use your hand to spread the solution into a large circle on the table directly in front of
you. This will create a large area of liquid film.
4) Dip a straw directly into the solution cup, and then place it directly on the moistened lab
table.
5) Begin SLOWLY blowing a bubble. The bubble will adhere to the surface of the table, so a
half-sphere will be observed. Continue blowing until it “pops.”
6) After “poppage,” a ring will remain on the surface of the lab table. Measure the diameter
of this ring (to the nearest tenth of a centimeter). This is the size of the bubble; record
this diameter in DATA TABLE 2.
7) Repeat steps 2-6 four additional times for each soap solution, for a grand total of 5
times PER DISH SOAP.
8) Create a graph using your quantitative data.
9) Analyze your data and draw a conclusion. Indicate three possible sources of experimental
error.

experiment, ANYTHING you say MUST be backed up with supporting data, including your
inferences.)
