ABSTRACT

For more than 50 years, global production of plastic has continued to rise.
Some 299 million tons of plastics were produced in 2013, representing a 4
percent increase over 2012. Recovery and recycling, however, remain
insufficient, and millions of tons of plastics end up in landfills and oceans each
year.
This research study entitled as “Production of Fuel from Waste Plastics”
was conducted to generate a new way of producing fuel using waste plastics,
useful in Petroleum industries in addition to protect the environment.
In the Pyrolysis process, mixture of waste plastics were first converted to
the molten state and then ‘cracked’ using a stainless steel chamber at
temperatures ranging from 400–500°C under inert gas. The hot pyrolytic gases
are condensed in a specially designed condenser system to yield a hydrocarbon
distillate.
After the test, it was found out that the mixture of waste plastics have a
potential in fuel production by using pyrolysis technique with the optimum
temperature range of about 400-500°C. Furthermore, the plastic fuel showed
outstanding results in terms of its physical properties.
Generally, based on the results, it has been proven that the waste plastics
could generate a new way of producing fuel which is usually expensive in our
country right now.
