o Tier 1: ALL students are in Tier 1 and are provided solid core instruction with differentiated instruction as needed in flexible, small groups o Tier 2: when a student is not progressing in Tier 1, it may be necessary to intervene with structured, scheduled, additional research-based instruction that is targeted to a student’s deficits. The amount of time will vary depending on subject matter and needs. It is recommended that reading be at least an additional 100-120 minutes each week, and math at least 35-40 minutes a week. o Tier 3: when a student is not progressing in Tier 2, a change must be made related to an increase in time and in intensity. For some students, SPED minutes may be considered Tier 3.
Our screener to identify students who may be in need of additional,
Tier 2 intervention is MAP: If a student falls AT OR BELOW the 20th percentile on MAP in reading or math, he/she must be considered for the Tier 2 RTI process. At this point, you will do the following: o Progress monitor for 3-4 weekly data points, while providing strong core and small group differentiated instruction. o Collect evidence from other assessments that will help diagnosis difficulties. These assessments may include but are not limited to: Reading: AIMSweb, i-ready diagnostic, PASI, PSI, QSI, writing samples Math: ST Math data, i-ready diagnostic, Bridges data from the diagnostic assessment, AIMSweb o Consider input from parents, current grades, students’ emotional responses to school, past school performance, etc. o Meet with your grade Level RTI team and case manager for assistance in decisions about placement. o PLEASE NOTE: You, of course, have the option of starting the RTI process right away, as opposed to progress monitoring for 3-4 addition weeks If a student falls within the 21st-40th %tile on MAP in reading, he/she is considered to be a RB3 candidate (which has now been extended by legislation to include grades 4 and 5) To clarify: o 0-20th %tile – consider for RTI (using the above guidelines to aid your decision) o 21st-40th %tile – candidate for RB3 support (which may or may not include official Tier 2 RTI classification, as well, depending on the student’s needs) o It IS possible for a student to have both RTI and RB3 designations
