Student/s name/s: Jennifer Whitehead, Micaela Andino
Instructions: Throughout the video, a specific expression is shown
Comment: "Seriously!" Is HIGH KEY because whenever it is pronounced, the characters
are trying to convey the meaning of "surprise" a little bit of "anger", and also that "seriously!"
has a similar meaning to "I can not believe it".

Student/s name/s: Gabriela Correa - Camila Morrone Karayan
Instructions: From 0:12 to 0:42 (or a shorter version from 0:39 to 0:42)
Comment: We thought that Jim uses mid key as he is not interested in Kelly's speech.
(detached)
Kelly, being excited, uses high key in different segments of the speech. At the end of the
fragment she uses high key to express opposition (I didn't have a boyfriend) "But, now, I
have a boyfriend."

Student's names: Florencia Arnaudo and Milagros Lorenzetti.
Instructions: From 0:24 to 0:32.
Comment: All through the dialogue there are different types of Intonation, but the one we
focused on was from second 24 to second 32, when Monica and Rachel argue about who
got the keys.
Rachel uses mid key to refer to Monica's action of having the keys, then, correcting her
Monica uses high key to refer to her exaggerated interrogation.

Student/s name/s: Giovanna Biglia - Leonel Santángelo
Instructions: One example is from 9:35 to 9:40. The other one from 9:45 to 9:50.
Comment: In the first example, the question “Do I?” is said in a high key. This is to show
contrast with Rachel’s question. Rachel is suggesting that she was not mean to him at high
school and Will, obviously thinking the opposite, uses a high key to express his irony.
The second example, when Will says “You made my life miserable”, a low key is used. This
key is used to show emotions (maybe sadness or depression), something that was clear at
that moment. Will was really upset about what happened in high school.

usp=sharing (“Four Weddings and a Funeral”)
Student/s name/s: García Verón Melina and Silva Marina
Instructions: Pay attention from the start of the video up to 00:24’.
Comment: The selected scene takes place at a wedding party in which six guests sit at a
table occupying previously assigned places. Not all the interactants know one another, so
they engage in some small talk while waiting to be served. Following Brazil we could say that
the conversation is linguistically symmetrical since all the participants have the same rights
as regards speaking roles. They all assert dominance at different times by making use of
some of the phonological resources at their disposal.
Alistair uses a high key in the first tone unit to start the conversation and he uses a
succession of proclaiming tones in additive mid key. He ends in mid key and not low key to
show that he is done but probably expecting some sort of contribution or agreement and
Charles does so using mid key as well which expresses agreement on the topic.

Instructions: Pay attention from “1:45” to “2:11”
Comment: After cutting both the Black Knight’s arms and upon his insistence to continue
fighting, King Arthur uses the High Key in “Look!” to express the contrast between his
obvious victory and the Black Knight’s inability to fight. The latter responds with “‘tis but a
flesh wound” with a Low Key, acting as if his fighting capabilities are equally good with or
without arms.

Student's names: Belén Costa - María José Pérez
Instructions: Pay attention from “00:00” to “0:11”
Comment: After Ross finds out that Joe (best friend) and Rachel (ex girlfriend) are dating,
he tries to hide his true feelings about the situation. The high key at the beginning shows
irony, surprise and contrast to his true feelings. The low key used afterwards tries to be
unemotional and calmed.

Instructions: Pay attention from “1:40” to “2:38”
Comment: Professor McGonagall starts in High Key as she welcomes the students to
Hogwarts, she continues in High key until she starts naming the houses when she changes
to Mid Key. The moment she names Slytherin she uses Low key for two reasons, she
doesn’t like it and shows disregard. She continues her speech in Mid Key as she adds
information to the students.
When Neville Longbottom finds his toad, he uses High key as he shows surprise and
happiness.
Professor McGonagall uses High Key again to announce the beginning of the ceremony.
