convince a certain individual to immigrate into their country.

Using the Syrian refugee crisis as a modern example, Syrian refugees often seek the
European Union countries as a refuge for asylum, family reunification, hopes for a new life, but
also seeking for a new job, which would allow the recipient country’s economy to flourish as a
whole. With the influx of Syrian refugees into countries such as the Netherlands, it would leave
a positive impact, allowing the Netherlands, as an MEDC, to develop further strategies to
nurture a better life for Syrian refugees and its citizens. Furthermore, Syrian refugees would
bring a change or an addition to the culture of the recipient countries, which would be needed in
hopes for an intercultural companionship to form, thus developing society. Citizens from
European countries have shown sympathy towards Syrian refugees by allowing them to cross
the Balkan borders, showing directions towards the next city, and also putting in an effort to
understand the refugee crisis rather than oppose it.

On the other hand, the Syrian refugee crisis can also be seen as having more negative
impacts on recipient countries like the Netherlands as well. A majority of the Syrian refugees
who immigrate into the Netherlands face the issue of poverty, which would mean that the
government or organizations such as the United Nations would need to supply the refugees with
basic needs, such as food, water, electricity, and proper healthcare. This would cost significant
amounts of money, especially for refugees who are not in the working age. Furthermore, forced
international migration into recipient countries would cause a political division between the left
and right political groups. Right-wing groups are likely to oppose immigration, which has been
shown through hate crime, protest movements, and acts of patriotism. This could instill fear in
Syrian refugees and local communities, preventing the intercultural companionship that would
develop society.

Overall, forced international migrations do bring a combination of positive and negative

impacts towards recipient countries. However, the positive impacts would often outweigh the
