FIRST QUARTER, SY2020-2021 GED 102 WEEK 8

Task List

The topic for Week 8 is about Statistics. Not as comprehensive as a usual

statistics course, it only tackles Data Management concepts and procedures. It
highlights the use of the normal distribution and regression analysis.

Keep track of your progress in this lesson by checking the number corresponding to
each task.

FIRST QUARTER, SY2020-2021 GED 102 WEEK 8

Lesson 1. Normal Distribution

Highlights

A. What is Statistics and what is it for?

- It is a type of continuous probability distribution for a real valued random

variable. A bell curve is a normal distribution, it has a mean, median, and
mode.

B. Describe a normal distribution.

- It is used to help remember the percentage of values that is around the mean
of a normal distribution. It is also called as the 68-95-99.7 rule, this means
that the observations falling first standard deviation is 68%, 95% within the
first two standard deviations, and 99.7% within the first three standard
deviations.

C. State and explain the Empirical Rule.

- The distribution of the sample will remain approximately normal distributed as

long as you take a sufficiently large random samples from the population, with
mean µ and standard deviation δ, with replacement.

Lesson 2. Central Limit Theorem

Highlights

A. Explain the Inferential process of statistics

- When sampling naturally, sampling error may occur this means that a sample
is not going to perfectly represent the given population. Methods of inferential
statistics are as follows: (1) the estimation of parameters and (2) testing of
statistical hypothesis.

B. State and explain the Central Limit Theorem

- The distribution of the sample will remain approximately normal distributed as

long as you take a sufficiently large random samples from the population, with
mean µ and standard deviation δ, with replacement.

Lesson 3. Regression and Correlation

Highlights

A. Correlation Analysis
1. What is Correlation Analysis?

- It is a study where it shows how certain variables are correlated from each
other.

2. How is correlation measured and how is the how interpreted?

- Correlation is measured with the use of the correlation coefficients, where it is

denoted a value of -1 and 1. If it lands on 0 then there is no relationship
between variables. -1 means that there is a perfect negative correlation
meanwhile 1 means that there is a perfect positive correlation.

B. Regression Analysis
1. What is Regression Analysis?

- Regression Analysis is a set of statistical process in which it estimates the

relationships between both dependent variable and one or more independent
variable.

2. What is a Least-Squares Line?

- It is a standard approach in regression analysis to help approximate the

solutions of overdetermined systems by minimizing the sum of squares of
residuals that are results of every single equations.
