In conventional milling, the cutting tool rotates in the opposite direction to the movement of table.
In the conventional or up milling, the chip starts at zero thickness gradually increases to the
maximum size.

When the feed motion is in the same direction as that of motion of the cutter, the milling is known
as climb milling or down milling. In climb milling, the chip starts at maximum thickness and goes to
zero thickness gradually.

on its end or on both is called milling cutter. Usually the cutter is held in a fixed, but rotating position
