I express my gratitude and deep regards to my teacher for the subject DR. Sanjay Singh for
giving me such a challenging topic and also for her exemplary guidance, monitoring and
constant encouragement throughout the course of this thesis.

I would also like to thank the librarians of Dr. Madhu Limaye Library who extended their
assistance to me by helping me out consult the relevant books and provided me with research
material and good books to work upon and the distinguished authors, jurists and journals for
providing in the public domain such invaluable information. I also thank all of my friends and
seniors who aided me along the way.

Lastly, I thank almighty, my family and friends for their constant encouragement without which
this assignment would not have been possible.

I know that despite my best efforts some discrepancies might have crept in which I believe my
humble Professor would forgive.

Thanking You All.

Save the planet

The sudden rise in the people’s consciousness about the health of the planet and its resources is
defentely a great change in the perception of the people. It is true that we have started living in a
society that can collapse at any point of time. Temprature is rising, ozone layer is depleting and
forests are being cut down. It is a great that people have started worrying about the future
generation and the future of the planet but most of the people are using this to gain popularity
among the youth and the old.

Let us take for example the most popular environment leader right now Greta Thunberg.
Thunberg first became known for her activism in August 2018 when, at age 15, she began
spending her school days outside the Swedish parliament to call for stronger action on global
warming by holding up a sign saying "School strike for the climate". Soon, other students
engaged in similar protests in their own communities. Together, they organized a school climate
strike movement under the name Fridays for Future. After Thunberg addressed the 2018 United
Nations Climate Change Conference, student strikes took place every week somewhere in the
world. In 2019, there were at least two coordinated multi-city protests involving over one million
students each. Now what a pleasure it is to see a kid at the age of 15 lead such a noble
movement. But according to me she is a fake. Now let us look at the most popular conference
she held in New York. The way she speaks. She had tears in her eyes. But she also had a paper in
her hands. Emotions come from within and not a well scripted speech. According to me she is
must have been a kid who didn’t want to go to school so she sat outside the school in the name of
saving the planet. The chair she was sitting, the paper she had in her hands, the mike she held,
the stage she was sitting on, all of them were made after destroying the environment.

Coming to the next incidence I heard a song “Sadda Haq” where the singer says that the place
that they are standing at used to be a jungle. Now cities have been constructed over it. He then
says that after that a flight of birds were seen leaving the place because there home was
destroyed and they never came back. He basically was critising the cutting down of forests. Now
let me tell you the guitar he was playing was made from wood and the platform he was standing
on was made from wood and again the mike from which he was singing were made in factories
which eventually would lead to the further destruction of planet. I saw a protest in Delhi while I
was doing my internship about the climate change. Kids coming from cars, using mobile phone,
factory made clothes, hoardings made form big cardboards and sticks, eating uncle chips and
stuff and then protesting against climate change. If you really worry about the planet and you
want to protest, stop using such items. They were made in factories; they lead to the destruction
of your precious planet. But no one can, can they?

Now take for example how Thunberg must have gotten to New York form Sweden. Airplanes.
Now everybody knows that Jets are one of the biggest reasons for pollution. If she really cares
about the environment stop using them.

I believe if you really care about the planet then you should use your skills to propagate the ideas
which are useful for the saving of the planet. Instead of wasting your time in strikes and protest
use and develop your skills and help other and make them aware about the little things that will
lead to change like rain water harvesting, stopping the use of firecrackers, plastics and all that.
The actual goal is very noble, but the way in which it is being propagated is very wrong.
