White Lady

A White Lady or “multo” is a type of female ghost, usually in a white dress, reportedly seen and
associated with legends around the world. In the Philippines, the white lady is popular enough
that she has her own story. Every Manileño taxi driver knows to be careful when picking up a
passenger at Balete Drive in Quezon City. The myth is, they pick up a beautiful, long haired
female passenger in a white dress. But the moment they look back at the White Lady, all they
see is a woman with a bruised and bloody face. Common to these myths are accidental death,
murder, or suicide, and the loss, betrayal by a husband or fiancé, and unrequited love.
