Use of PZ6105R, a metal-cored wire specially devel-
oped for robotic welding, for the fabrication of frames
of vibratory road compactors.
Important wire properties are a good penetration and
tie-in, necessary to avoid fatigue cracking, excellent
feedability, and smooth arc ignition without burn-back
problems and low spatter.
Shown here is CA152, a universal frame for various
Dynapac compactors. Clearly visible is the characteris-
tic regular frequency at which slag islands are formed, re-
sulting from very stable arc properties. The close-up
(bottom) reveals an excellent weld appearance with easi-
ly removable slag.

Contents page 4 The majority of the products described in this catalogue are classified according the fol-
lowing AWS classification systems. Note that metal-cored types for carbon steel and
stainless steel are included in the AWS classifications for solid wires and rods, whereas
other cored wire types are covered by separate AWS classifications.
Below, the coding system of these classifications are briefly described, explaining the
coding applying to the cored wires in this catalogue. For further information, readers are
referred to the appropriate AWS specifications.

Another important feature is the resistance
to moisture reabsorption. Moisture pick-up
can take place during long term storage in
the original packaging (shelf life) and dur-
ing unprotected exposure on the shopfloor
after opening the packaging.

tening out as exposure times lengthen, for
both packed and unpacked wire.
Evidently, this condition is unrealistically
severe. Under normal warehouse condi-
tions shelf life is regarded as practically
unlimited, whereas moisture pick-up on
the shopfloor is minimal when care is tak-
en to return partly used spools to their
original packaging (see storage recom-

extreme tropical condition. As may be
expected from a gas shielded cored wire,
PZ 6138 is practically insensitive to the air
moisture content.
The same applies to PZ6125. For compar-
ison, a 8016-G basic MMA electrode has
been tested as well, showing a substantial
increase in weld metal hydrogen content.

FILARC flux- and Welding parameters
metal- cored
welding wires

Contents page 4 The table below surveys three major families in the range of cored wires for: non-alloyed
steels, low-temperature steels, high strength steels, and creep resistant steels. These
families are all-position rutile, all-position basic, and all-position metal-cored.
Observe following guidelines regarding current and polarity:
- All-position rutile types: DC+. Increase arc voltage by 1-2V when using CO2
- All-position basic types: DC–
- All position metal-cored types: DC+
