English has become global language for centuries. Malaysia has set English as
second language for the country. Despite of struggling to maintain the unique of Bahasa
Malaysia, the government still prioritizing the usage of English language as it has become
global lingua franca. The usage of English is widely used in Malaysia for business. It is used
in two-way communication with countries that has collaborated with Malaysia especially for
global business. For example, Malaysia has become a part of ASEAN which requires
English for the official language. Other than that, it can also be seen that English has widely
spread in advertisements in Malaysia. As the tourism rate is highly increasing for the past
few years, the government has allowed the usage of English in advertisements to attract and
make ease for the tourist. There are a part of older generation repels the usage of English
because of its status as colonizer language, however, teens are still widely using this
language especially in social media instead of using Bahasa Melayu. The usage of English
is also demanding in Education as the governments has encourage the society to learn
English. For example, Malaysia University English Test that required students to master
English language to secure their future.

Malaysia is a unique country because of the multicultural diversity. Society needs to

adapt with the multicultural environments and learn skills for the adaption. The first skill that
is needed is teamwork. I believe teamwork is vital for a better understanding. Teamwork with
different races can develop the understanding in multicultural understanding and avoid any
racial issues. Other than that, language development skill. In Malaysia, national type schools
are built to learn language such as Mandarin and Tamil. This has become better as it is a
process of uniting different races at the young age. Chinese and India people have learned
Bahasa Melayu for a better adoption in society. As they are minority, they learn the culture
and language of majority, Melayu races to be able to adapt with the environment. Finally, I
believe that in order for a better understanding of multicultural, leadership skills are needed.
The unity of different races is not only depending on the efforts made by the government, but
also the endeavor of our young leaders. It can be seen through social medias as most of
nowadays teenagers are against racial issues such as racial slur. Influencers have played a
vital role in influencing social media users to keep being patriotic and develop the
understanding of multicultural.
